I have a birthday/anniversary coming up and mama has given permission for a new pocketknife. Would you folks be willing to offer your opinions on the Stretch?? I have been eyeing it for quite some time - its a tossup between it and the military in s90v - I have the bg42. Love zpd189 - have the caly 3, but was curious about the Stretch and figured this was the place to ask. Thanks for the help!

Small clarification, are you talking about the Stretch II in CF and ZDP or the original Stretch (discontinued but still fairly available)?

I've been carrying a Stretch II for quite a while now. The blade is fairly thin, with a nice distal taper, which is to say it is a great slicer and a poor crowbar. It is thin and light in the pocket or the hand, the ergonomics are great, and the steel is excellent. If you can get around the sole drawback (the pricetag), it is definitely worth having.

Personally, I'd go for the S90V Military. Partially because it is one of the only production knives ever to use that steel type, and because I really like the Military design. If you prefer smaller knives then the Stretch would probably get more use, which is the ultimate goal with any knife.
Between the two, get the one that would be carried more.

I own both the Stretch and Stretch II. Great knife, highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed. I assume that you mean the II since you reference ZDP-189.

Since you already have the BG42, I would think the only reason to get the s90v would be to start collecting versions of the Military or saving it to sell later? Either reason is fine, but the Stretch is a great knife. ;)

I have the CF Stretch & the s90 CF Millie. My vote goes to the Millie. For some reason I just can't warm up to the Stretch. Don't know why, its a fine knife, excellent slicer!

I just can't get around the looks of the Stretch II, I just don't like the lines. The S90V Military is a different kettle of fish, however. I just love the Millie in general and to get one in S90V...marvelous!

Stretch II is a fantastic knife. The mildly textured CF is reasonably attractive, and provides an excellent balance between traction and pocket wear. Fit and finish are top notch. Handle shape and size are perfect for my hand, sufficient room without tons of overhang. Blade to handle length ratio is about as good as it gets, you would be hard pressed to pack more blade into that length handle.

My Stretch II is IMHO Sal's greates design yet. It is the perfect 3,5 inch folder. Handle/blade ratio, edge geometry, many clip options, weight, heft, ergos; everything -to me- is just right.

The Military is, to me, a different type of pocket folder. The Millie isa great field knife but the Stretch II is the better EDC.
