Is it just me or is the spyderhole not cut cleanly edgewise? I just received my Delica Wave and I noticed the infamous little smudge of metal inside the hole. I placed my pinky inside the hole to see how big of a hump it was, and to my amazement, when I took my pinky out, it was bleeding. I was cut from the spyderhole's edge.

My native never had this problem, is my delica wave just not finished up right or are others having similar issues?

BTW the delica wave is awesome!

I have never had that happen on any of mine, but I have heard about a few others that have slipped through. If it was me, I'd use a round ceramic or diamond rod to break and smooth the edge of the hole, but you could send it in for repair/replacement.

You can also use a small round sanding attachment for a dremel. That fits inside the hole and you can use that to smooth the rough edges out. I just did the same thing to my native. I didn't like the way that part of the Spyder hole was covered by the handle, so with the knive closed I inserted the small dremel sanding attachment and opened it up.

I jsut took a file to it, but it just amazed me that the finish delica was like that. Oh well, its still an awesome knife!

Never had one so rough that it would actually cut me, but the holes are in general not finished, meaning they remain the way the laser cut them. Even on the CF Mili. Never really bother me, and functionally doesn't really matter much, because usually you wouldn't stick your finger into it :D. But as someone suggested already: A polish wheel on a dremel would take care of it. Or some sandpaper glued on a wooden dowel.

The Spyderholes are typically rough, because they're only laser cut, with minimal polishing afterwards. Never had one sharp enough to cut me though.

Hi Chinese man,

Sorry 'bout your cut. The holes are buffed, but not chamferred. We found that a little "bite" works better for opening than none. Finding that "perfect" amount of "bite" for each person is tougher than it might appear. Your pinky probably doesn't have the callous that your thumb does.

Glad you like the Emerson Wave.

Having used some older Spydercos that were chamferred and polished, I am glad they do not do that anymore. Leaving the hole a little rough is better. I have never cut myself on a hole that had bite so I have never had to mod the inside of the hole. It is better to leave them rough so that we can mod them to our likes.

If someone is too lazy to take a bit of sandpaper and smooth out the edge if it bothers them, there is no hope for them. If you are not savvy enough to know how to do this, you should not be around sharp things anyway. I have heard of people sending their Spyderco back because it cut their finger!

Really people, if you can take the time to send the knife back to have them sand out the hole for you, why can't you just do it yourself?
