Sal, does this idea sound doable to you? Take a proven, hard working, classic folder, the Sodbuster, and Spyderize it! Whatcha tink??!! Thanks.

I think this would be a very cool design. I've been searching for a nice, high-quality Sodbuster on the market and have yet to find anything I truly like.

I'm picturing a linen micarta handle, very smooth opening with a traditionally-shaped blade with the 14mm opening hole in it, with two blade versions---one nearing four inches, and the other coming in at around three. Flat ground, with a carbon steel, perhaps 52100 like in the Mules. I think this is an excellent idea!

God bless you, America, and our men and women overseas.

Off the top of my head, I'd like to see jigged paper micrta scales, for a classic look. High carbon steel blade, flat ground of course, with orange peal Ti bolsters. Ti liners and back spring/spacer would be good also :)

Boy's---It's sounding good already! Thanks for the in-put. Steelscout---Eye-Brand Soddies are on sale at Smoky MT. Knife Works. I just ordered their Big Boy Soddie. The Jr., is also available.

CP---Oops! Sorry about that! Regular price it is. Thanks for the correction!

Well---Another Lycosa Knife Idea---down the drain!! Thanks for the support Haze and Steelscout!! Nothing ventured...

...nothing gained.

I really wanted to see something come out of this!

God bless you, America, and our men and women overseas.

Steelscout---You could run this idea by Sal Glesser. I would love to see a Spyder Sodbuster, too!

Hi Lycosa,

Anything is do-able, persistence, tenacity and humility prevail.

The question in business is not often can we do it?, but should we do it?

The creation of a new design is a fairly difficult project. There is much that must be considered. The first and most important would probably be selection of where to invest time and money (assuming we follow ethical rules). There are many designs that can be made, but we cannot make all of them. (I guess that's part of the "can" we do it?). Selection of next years, and the following years, product is a constant ongoing work in progress for a knife manufacturer, or any manufacturer.

A spyderco sodbuster wouldn't look anthing like the Sodbuster. As nice as the design is, to meet a particular service, we would try to capture the "spirit" and function of the concept and create a Spyderco version.

The market determines 75% of what we make.

Thank you, Sal, for sharing your successful business recipe, or at least, one of them! Understood!
CP---I'll copy you, one of each, a Spyder and a Soddie.
