Spyderco 2018 Lists: Delivered & Upcoming

Now that the Brouwer is available at some sites, I’ve been revisiting its details and specs. I was interested when it was announced, but now I wonder what it would offer over the CF/G-10 Chapparal, which I carry fairly often. Cutting edge length seems almost identical. Any thoughts?

Frame lock vs Back lock is all I see.

Other than a similar cutting edge, I'd say the two knives are completely different.

The one thing I really like about the Brouwer is that it appears to be not very tall when closed. It looks like a really nice knife but, considering the price, it's not unique enough for me to get my wallet out. I'll stick with my Chaps, Natives, Sages, etc.

I agree that it's not unique enough for me to get excited even though I prefer the blade shape over the Sage series. And the clip placement is a deal breaker.

The blade shape does look nice. I also agree about the clip. Not sure why they couldn't place it closer to the end. I would much prefer the deep carry wire clip be used on a knife of this size too.

I have #27 & #35 on Pre-order and am looking forward to getting the Amalgam and if I like it I will sell my Military. I am actually more looking forward to the Smock coming out because it's a unique lock system and the blade is very cool.

I am also really looking forward to the Amalgam. I've seen one site has it listed for September. Not sure if that really means much or not. That and the Smock are definitely my most anticipated upcoming knives though.

These 2 on preorder are my only two Spyderco's. I put the deposits on those 2 and I think that is going to be it for new Spyderco's for a while. I'v become disillusioned with Spyderco in general, unpleasant experience's with the warranty-repair dept, then their is the issues of the MAP price changes then the adoption of S30 to replace some steels that are actually better such as S35VN. Then the additional price hikes on specific knives in addition to the MAP changes.
I would think that with all the competition coming from abroad. The face of the Pleasure knife industry and it is a case of the student surpassing the teacher.

Clip placement appears to be because of the lanyard hole and frame screw being where they are. Lanyards are nice but I'd think something like clip placement would be of more importance.
