Spyderco 2021 Product Guide

I want to like Spyderco, really I do.

But the "Build-It-Around-A-Hole" thing throws me.

Do you really need to put a hole in the fixed blades too? Wouldn't the little Spyder logo be enough?

Kinda want a GB2 though. Looks pretty low profile in spite of the hole opener. Love CPM-M4, love a liner lock... Damn that hole in the blade though.

To each their own.
The thing is, most of us like it, or we would not continue buying them, if I owned the company I would do what it takes to make my customers happy but no company will ever please everyone.

I had to request a catalog; this 700+MB pdf is making my computer wheeze and complain.

Thanks for posting this. My first impression: They're playing it safe. Not a lot of new stuff or surprises.

What do you guys think?

I see a couple new sharpeners, but for the most part there's only what we already knew was out or coming soon. Remember that this catalog doesn't include sprint runts/exclusives.

Quad core i7 (don't know what gen, it's about 10 years old), 16gb RAM (DDR3), 2GB Geforce 940M. I think all it really needs is for me to finally get around to swapping in the SSD I bought years ago. The stock 5400rpm HDD definitely adds to slow load times for some things. The pdf loads, it just takes a second or two for each page to render. It's old but it's more than capable for my needs. I wouldn't mind an upgrade obviously, but I have other priorities first. Plus knives to buy. I kinda really want an Ikuchi.

Sandy bridge Era. Not bad really, mine has an i5 2400 and still played games today! All I needed to do was a new power supply when the original popped and a graphics card upgrade. Still, it was showing its age and was starting to blue screen a lot. Probably needs new ram and a fresh windows install. It's still good for lots of things, it's just tired.

And yea, 5400 rpm drives are a bit sluggish. I go 7200 only, although the two new ones I built have nvme ssds, one is 1Tb, the other 500 Gb with a 1Tb storage drive for all my games. Boot speeds are insane, and load speeds are really fast. Glad I finally upgraded!

And I still spent around the same amount as I did on the old one. $950 10 years ago, and around $800 for each of the new ones, give or take. Had to build a new one to replace our other aging pc as well... Wasn't as old but the processor was subpar (and fx 6350). The new amds are pretty awesome though! Have to say I am impressed.

All I've read about S30V and S45VN makes them seem very similar.
Makes and S30V and S35VN seem similar too, but to me it seems like with the same geometry, HT, etc. the S30V has slightly better
edge retention and the S35VN is slightly tougher. I believe this is how they were designed/ alloyed anyway.
Point is there's a noticeable difference and I'm wondering how the S45VN will be.
I guess we'll have to wait for more real world testing.
Excited to hear what people think of the new steel, especially in the PM2/ PM3 blades.

This is what I have. Not quite as old as I thought. Geforce 840m, not 940m. Upgraded to 16gb RAM and Blu-ray drive, but otherwise stock. Intel Core i7 4th Gen 4710HQ, Haswell. Screen could be better, but I almost never use it as a "laptop"; wireless keyboard and mouse from my couch and a 43" TV. The graphics card can only do 30fps at 4K UHD, and honestly, that'd be the primary reason to upgrade now that I have a UHD TV.

Apologies for the thread derailment.

Not a bad machine really! I'm usually not a laptop guy but I did get myself one due to being on the road and TV just not cutting it.

I'm sorry for derailing the thread as well... Back to the scheduled program!
