Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2010 Report - Prototype Pictures

Sage 3 and Para Military 2 :D:D:D:D Both are must haves, assuming the prices are around the current ones. Spyderco is great!

Ugh, this is just annoying now. WAY too many knives here that I HAVE to have, and nowhere near a big enough budget :(. Those Anso collabs are awesome.

+1
I'm wanting about 10 of the models shown which is probably way more than my wallet can support. Might have to sell a kidney.

Some, like the Para don't show any markings on the blades, wonder what steels will be used?

Darn you Spyderco! I should set up an automatic bank transfer to them so I don't have to constantly enter my credit card number :)

The PE Matriarch shall be mine. Love that brown handle and the PE option.

The new Para looks great, too. A blue handle run would be awesome.

Who else has revisited this thread more than six times or more just to take another look? Six is... an understatement for me.

After all the forum discussions, here’s the end product; the new and improved Paramilitary.

The most important improvements (at least for me) are the 4-way clip, no more exposed corner and the improved ergonomics. The clip on the Para 2 is put as far back on each position as possible, to facilitate deep carry. This conventional clip still provides plenty of handle to grab for a fast draw. I like wire clips, but on some knives the deep-carry feature can be a hindrance when you want a ‘fast draw’. On the old Para a small corner of the blade tang was exposed when the knife was folded. It was the main reason for me to get rid of my Para. This problem is now solved; the knife now looks and feels way better. The ergos of the handle were also improved. I no longer need to use the choil for a full-handed grip. The handle on the Para 2 is a little longer than the first version. All of the edges were nicely beveled; it almost melts in my hand.

The price for these improvements is perhaps that the Para 2 almost feels like an ‘intermediate Military’ vs. a ‘junior model’ of the Military. I’m definitely going to get one; I think it will make a perfect companion folder to the next prototype in this report.

Bravo, bravissimo! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

This thing completely turns over my list of priorities. This is most likely going to be my next knife purchase. This seems like the perfect left hander's knife now. Excellent revision.

Anyone have any idea when these will be available to play with in the SFO? I'd love to make a drive and play with some new blades.

Thanks!

A titanium frame version of the Para 2 would be a cool option too. But I shouldn't ask for too much at such an early stage I guess :D.

Is the blade thickness the same as the original?

Man I keep coming back to this thread once or twice a day just to look at that Para. I think they did a great job with it looking at the photos. It looks like it's a little slimmer in the handle and longer in the blade? Maybe it's just the angle of the photos. Either way I'm excited for it, and await the release info. Putting away money for it starting this week :D

Thank you very much Sal & Spyderco. If this is any indication of the direction the Millie 2 will take there's another I'll be putting $$ away for.

I love that Szabo. I need it, I have been waiting a long time. I wish it still had the finger guard but I need it as is.

I had seen the PPT custom, on this old topic: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=617613

and instantly liked the design... it' s hard to not like a Perrin design:cool:;) (I also have a La Griffe).

I was hoping to see it with a frame-lock, as I don't trust (& buy) liner-locks, but this kind of hybrid between the frame-lock & the liner-lock is really intriguing and most important it retains the most important feature of the frame-lock: the direct pressure of the hand on the locking liner, during the gripping of the knife.
Great design & interesting lock, I have put it immediately in my wishlist, I' ll buy one in the future; please make many of them & leave the model in the catalog for a decent time;) .

This one is going on my wish list.

Mine too! I can't wait to swap out my well used Caly 3 for a Caly 3.5 at work. One great knife to carry in a pair of Dockers.

Thank you sir for your time, effort and the fine pictures and thank you Spyderco for the fine blades.
