Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2024 Report

Sage 5 CPM-REX121 – Spyderco Design Production Sample 2024
The steel junkies among us get an extra treat in the form of CPM-REX121, mated to a lightweight Sage 5 chassis. This knife will have a pivot bushing system. Like the previous REX45 sprint run knives, the Sage 5 in CPM-REX121 will be offered with an orange handle.

Tenacious R.I.L – Spyderco Design Production Sample 2024
This year’s meet did not just showcase new steels on existing designs, there were also a few nice surprises in handles and handle materials. This R.I.L Tenacious is a good example. The titanium handle was beautifully anodized. The handle featured a Reeve-style Integral Lock (hence the R.I.L.) that had a lock insert and an over-travel stop. Opening, unlocking and closing was very smooth on this sample. The blue handle seemed to change color a little bit, when held at different angles which I liked a lot. Combined with the black-oxide finished blade, this Tenacious will be a stylish, and functional, EDC option.

Tenacious R.I.L. – Spyderco Design Production Sample 2024
This unnamed Tenacious R.I.L. featured a satin finished D2 blade and an absolutely stunning handle design. The handle is titanium and has been beautifully anodized. The end result seems like Thor’s hammer crashed into this Tenacious and somehow it survived. An absolutely stunning looking folder. The Reeve Integral Lock on this sample featured a lock-face insert and an over-travel stop, and the operation was very smooth.

Charisma – Spyderco Design Production Sample 2024
The Spyderco Charisma was a new design that seemed to want to fly out of my lightbox. This was an impressively thin and lightweight folder. The cutting edge however, is almost as long as the edge found on a Paramilitary 2. The Charisma is thin and light enough to easily carry in a shirt pocket. I did have to practice a bit to find the opening hole, but after a few cycles, opening and closing was very easy. The 3D handle design offered a bit extra grip. Again, and I can’t stress this enough, the Charisma was impressively light and thin. Despite its diminutive dimensions, I didn’t notice any noticeable flex when handling the Charisma.

This is the last of the Spyderco Production Samples I got to shoot and share with you. I’m working on videos of these knives, but they won’t feature any new knives, just more footage…. 😉

The Manix2, Sage 5 Rex-121 and framelock Tenacious were "sneak peeked" as Sprints in a video from SHOT. The others are likely to be regular production. I hope the Manix2 LW gets changed to production instead of Sprint.

Me too. The lw manix 2 in maxamets regular production so it's not a stretch to hope for a 15v version. Seems like 15v is being added to the regular lineup along with s110v and maxamet. But I'm only speculating

I suspect 15V is going to replace Maxamet just because it is easier to work. They have a *lot* of QC rejects with Maxamet.

Wouldn't be a bad thing necessarily. I'd love to see Larrins tests for 15v done with this BBB heat treated 15v versus the regular 15v in his charts. The edge retention chart showed regular 15v below maxamet. But I watched a YouTube video by Cedric cutting rope and this BBB 15v surpassed maxamet and was getting into ceramic knife territory. Plus its a little tougher than maxamet. I also noticed in another thread posted a link to a bunch of snapped blades on spyderco knives that the majority of which were maxamet. I'm sure it's an in house secret, but I'd also love to see the CATRA results from spydercos own testing on some of these steels. Either way it seems like this 15vs giving you most or all of the benefit of maxamet with a little more toughness. I'd be happy with either really.
