Spyderco and Carbon Fiber?

Another option like the domino would be the dice. Pretty much a little brother to the Domino. Although only slightly smaller....I think, don't have one. But I still think the Chaparral would be the perfect fit for off clip carry as you described.

One of the next ones I'm interested in that falls right between in size is the sage. Leaning toward the Sage 1 or 2. I just don't like the bolt lock on the Sage 3. They seem very stiff to me. But the Benchmades with axis/bolt/ball (Whatever ) are flawless to me and can be worked with one hand, and even just one side. BM have really done a good job in them.

Disclaimer: I don't own either one. But from handling the Domino and the Dice a bunch trying to decide which one I liked more, they seem to have a near-identical flipper, and the Domino absolutely destroys the Dice in flipping smoothness and reliability. I think they might not have tuned the pivot and such on the Dice well enough and it's really tuned for the Domino, and/or the Domino's larger blade has more momentum. Either way, it just rockets out every single time for me, and I get misfires with the Dice. The Dice is a lovely knife and I might just need more time with it, but my current impression is that I'd buy the Domino hands down.

The Tiawanese Spyderco's aren't 'true' carbon fiber - they are a top layer of real carbon fiber that is laminated to what appears to be black G-10.

I've had a handful and they barely show wear after months of carry.

I much prefer the peal-ply carbon fiber Spyderco uses on their domestically-made knives. It's the best of both worlds: grippiness of G-10, with the added benefit that it's carbon fiber (cool factor). The Japan-made knives also are true carbon fiber (ZDP Caly, ZDP Stretch, Superhawk, etc.).

Carbon fiber wears the best out of any laminate materials I've used. The worst that will happen is it will chip out if dropped on concrete, instead of denting like G-10 or FRN.
