Does anyone know if spyderco has,or plans on making an assisted opening knife?I don't really think it's necessary, but it would be pretty cool.

P.S. If this has been discussed before, could you give me a link to the thread?Search function not working. Thanks

I think I remember Eric having a few designs on the table, IIRC any AO's Spyderco would make would be using Kershaw's Speed Safe system, giving them full credit, of course. This is just stuff I read on the internet, so take it or leave it. :o

I generally just buy AO's for the coolness factor.I don't really think they're necessary on a spyderco's,since they open easily & fast enough for me.However,if they did make one,I'd be the first guy in line waiting for the store to open.:D
BTW,I just got my Chinook III yesterday. What a soliD hunk of knife!!!I love everything about it.

maybe....spyderco usually makes atleast 1 knife of every type that other companies have, along with all the innovative models they already have, so yes there are concept models but i don't know if it'll get the go ahead due to some considering it "just a fad" or some legal implications

We have concept models. The Domino was one. No decisions have been made yet.

My local supplier told me that he tried to order all of the new items on the new catalog (the dealer catalog, not the one that you and I get), and there were 2-3 items listed on it that they told him they cannot ship because they are automatics (we are in Canada, where automatics are banned).

Not sure if those are different from what you call assisted opening. Kershaws are allowed here...

IIRC, the Citadel and the Samaritan are autos. Not AO's just (dual action) automatics.

These are the newest Spyderco automatic knives. Pics taken at the Spyderco meeting in Solingen earlier this month.

As a canadian with gadget fever I am worried if I was ever in the US and had a chance to buy a Spydie auto I would be tempted to ship it home in pieces. If I kept all the pieces in a box it would be legal and I would still have it. The Citadel looks like an auto Tenacious.
My friend told me their were cheap 15$ autos for sale everywhere in China. It would be nice if they could do a Byrd auto for 50$.

If a million people bought auto knives in the US it might change some laws for the better.

While in AL last week, I had the chance to handle the Citadel. It was a push-button AO. I didn't think there were any for sale, but for the low low price of 280 I too could have been the proud owner. Unfortunately that was a bit out of my price range, even with a 15 percent discount it was more than I could have spent. The knife locked up solid and had a nice action...but I only handled it for about 2 minutes.

I didn't know they existed until one jumped off the page at me on 888knivesrus. I came over here for a search and got this thread.
