Spyderco: as in "Stand in" tool of the day

So I'm up on a cell tower, installing an IP camera, and I don't have the tools I need because I didn't see this job coming when I started my day. I'm sure you've all been there...needed a tool but you just don't have it & the job just needs to get done.
Out comes my recently EDC'd Native. I thought I'd carry it for awhile, and I'm glad I did. First, it substituted as a jeweler's screwdriver (don't read further if you are a knife purist) on a proprietary wire connector block. Them screws were too tiny for my screwdriver to purchase on, and I needed to swap-out some wiring. Now, even I don't condone this type of abuse, but what's a working guy to do at that moment? So I screwed away. Then it became my dikes, cutting some wire, then stripping wire insulation, and then cutting the tail ends off of some wire ties. And finally, and I remember this specifically mentioned recently here on forum, I had to cut some poly rope. I am happy to report the Native did all, and is unfazed & still sharp enough to have confidence in for tomorrow's EDC carry. In fact, I've kinda grown fond of the guy. Last night I did some custom work on the FRN so my thumb gets a full unobstructed purchase of the thumb hole. Thanks Sal for my emergency tool.

What's your Substitute Tool story?

Aaaahhhh, the Spyderco Native. My favorite knife. I love stories like that, thanks.

Ditto pkdmslf. I love mine. I'm considering getting another as a standby. Thanks for the story Ducktaper!

I've used my tasman in a pinch to cut gel (theatrical color filters for lights) on the concrete, I watched my friend use his cento 4 for the screws in his macbook, I pried a cardoor open just enough for my friend to use a hanger to open her door with my Assist, one of my idiot friends used my paramilitary as a pin-splitter...

And my tasman is CONSTANTLY opening cables...

My knives live a hard life...

Phil

I used my native as a screwdrivers all the time before it was retired. I use the spine of my mini manix as a scraper to clean hardened chocolate off work benches, use it to pry open valves all the time.

I no longer use my knife as a screwdriver ever since I bought my multitool.

The pistol grip screws on my Bicentennial Ruger Service Six .357 Mag. worked themselves loose at the range once. I used my old G-2 SS Police as a screw driver. I bunged up the tip of my knife and bunged up the screw on the pistol. Stupidest thing I ever did...but I was young and dumb. Nowadays I'm just dumb. :o
