I recently lost my Spyderco Rescue, and while searching for a replacement, I came across this. I'm wondering if it is functional or gimmicky.

I've handled one and as far as I can tell it is one of the better rescue blades out there. The tip would work well for light prying, the serrations could cut through strapping as if it were butter, and the carbide tip seems to be quite tough. I don't have a use for one but best of luck to you...

It is a good knife but really only serves one purpose, and that is cutting webbing/seatbelts/rope.

You will find that for everyday tasks that blade is almost useless. If you ever slice food or make small cuts you will want a blade with a point.

For a rescue knife I think it is one of the better ones.

You've got a link to the Assist I, not the Assist II. The II has a blade shaped like the regular rescues and no glass breaker. They've been discontinued, but there are still some around.
