Sal,

You're keeping things too quiet

! Gail (Mrs. Glesser) has lead a contingent from Golden to Sturgis, SD, sight of the 59th annual motorcycle rally. They're located near the Community Center, north side of Lavalle by the intersection of 4th and 3rd. Heard several forumites have stopped by already. I'm overdue

I did NOT escape from the institution! They gave me a day pass!

May have been my fault on the directions I gave Bob...should be on the north side of Lazelle Street. Easy to find due to the glass display cases. Gail Glesser is fascinating to talk to and a great source of information. I ended up with a Civilian and their sharpening system. Got to handle a variety of others...much to my dismay....and now great desire.

So much to choose from...the magnificent Military, the svelte Starmate and the Wegner, which was made for my hand.

Thanks again to Gail...and I am afraid I'll be back at their booth before the week is out. *Sigh*

I 've got a question for you Sal.Is this the first year that Spyderco has had a presence at the Rally or have I just missed the setup in previous years?

Hammer - This is the first year. Gail wanted to give it a try. She said we were well received.

The Sturgis Rally is once again winding down, sending some 350,000+ people home. I had little time to get around, so spent the closing hour visiting the wonderful folks at the Spyderco booth. Shrewdly waiting until Saturday night to pack up, they took time from their work to allow me to handle their wonderful products. Once again Gail was wonderful to talk to...even after a rather brutally hot day. Her beliefs and insights are inspring.

Lest I forget Sal...he does do a great video tape (to go with their Sharpmaker)... Spouse and I watched it twice so far, learning much and looking forward to sharpening a knife or two together.

Now...do I want the perfect feel of the Wegner? The grasping retention of the Military? Or...the beauty of the Starmate?

Thanks again Gail, for introducing me to the life saving utility of the Civilian. Looking forward to seeing Spyderco at the 2000 Sturgis Rally.

Kilroy....was here.

PS: I did forget to tell them how much I appreciate their Moran knife, though the Bald1 knows how much I like it.

"Kilroy",

Just gotta do this and no I won't blow your cover

! You talk about Sal in that video, well the camera caught you too!!!! The TV news spot was on the undercover group comprised of LEOs from around the country with extensive motorcycle knowledge. They guys all looked like they should have been wearing colors. Nice tattoos too. No faces revealed of course. But a pan of the background while the narrative mentioned "support" personnel showed you in the flesh. You kinda stuck out as a straight citizen <heheheheehe>, plus that extra gear on your belt. I know this is a departure from your normal LEO duties but I suspect you wre having fun while your torn rotor cup mends

BTW, get a Starmate!!!

Today I turn 52 and this week has been a howl. I made several attempts to get over to the Spydie booth but got waylaid <hehehehehe>. Oh well... I did make it to Golden a few months back, and there's always the upcoming biggie. For the uninitiated that's the 60th annual rally in year Y2K. They're predicting as many as 1,000,000 folks which would easily eclipse the previous records of just over half that many.

For me the Civilian has taken some practice to deploy quickly compared to say the Military (or for that matter our Morans in slip sheaths

). Great stuff all around.

Gail,

I'm truely sorry I missed you. Wanted to again thank you for the "first aid" when I was at Golden

! You guys were all great!
