That's dialex's new knife? Nothing he does is an embarrassment. You could say it doesn't do anything for you.

It looks very interesting to me. When I first saw it on one of the websites (it looks like its not available, yet) I, passed right over it. But after a second look it has grown on me.

The blade looks intriguing. Handle looks Awesome, as well. Cant wait to give it a try out and put it in my daily rotation.

Thanks for the reply's. Battle

I am one that really doesn't like it either. I think the embarrassment comment was directed at an embarrassment to Spyderco. It looks as though they are entering the mall ninja crowd with this one. Kind of uncharacteristic of them. They may have some funky knives (Karahawk, Szabo etc.) but those have more function to them that explains the funkiness. This one is sort of a puzzle to me. Bugout Bill can say it is an embarrassment if he likes. It is his opinion after all.

I meant it was an embarrassment as it is an ugly and awkward looking design. Yes, Spyderco makes a lot of funky looking designs, but I don't understand the design of the Battlestation.

Spyderco has been in the mall ninja business for a while, they just don't publicize it as much. Let's see, the Police, Civilian, Waved Delica and Endura, P'Kal, Warrior...

I wouldn't say they're in the mall ninja business. Those are some excellent designs, particularly if you might have to rely on the knife in a bad situation.

Judging by your comment, you're saying the entire Emerson Knives company is based on mall ninjas?

Troll much?

The ergonomics look awful, the blade is too small for a defensive blade. That's just me, though.
Not everyone uses the same knife in the same way. If you need something for SD, there are much better choices available. I wouldn't be so dismissive, get one in your possession first. Making informed decisions is a better option. It would seem you have strong opinions that not many people find relatable. That says a lot.

Sorry, I didn't mean to speak for you. I was just guessing as to what you meant. I still stand by you and anyone voicing your opinion, and not being shut down for it. While I don't personally like this particular design, I see Spyderco far from the mall ninja crowd. They are imo the most function driven knife maker out there. With that being said, they also venture out of their comfort zone way more than anybody else, and those are some of the main reasons they are by far my favorite. Doing that, you sometimes have duds and misses, but that risk is nice to see. I will probably never buy any of those specialized self-defense knives, as I am more of a knife being a simple tool to cut things kind of guy. I do realize though that Spyderco focuses on supplying LE and Military personnel with serious purpose built knives with input from the likes of Michael Janich among others.

The thing that actually turns me off with this particular design are some of the "fashion statements" the knife makes. Things that have no functional reasoning, but just look "cool." You also have to understand the designer. As I understand him, he has never made a knife and only comes up with designs, and sells his designs to a maker. That model is a little off putting to me personally. It is like a song writer writing lyrics, but not actually performing the songs. I am not opposed to his designs completely based off that, I have and really like the Junior. Also it may be ergonomic (looks can be very deceiving), so I wouldn't make that call until you hold one.

ergonomics look pretty nice, to me. The blade reminds me of a battleship. and I just realized it has the same name as my "handle"... Now, I must have it!:)

Spyderco has a lot of folders around 3". This thing wouldn't fit my EDC needs any better than a Delica, Caly, Sage, Tenacious or Native (among others).

It's also relatively heavy at 4.5 oz. And I think it looks hideous. Not for me!

There is nothing wrong with "mall ninja" products, I was using the term kind of sarcastically. They have a reason to exist and I appreciate that, the Battlestation just comes across as a knife designed to look cool, and I personally don't think it is very pretty looking. I don't like the designer's work all that much to begin with, so there is an underlying bias there.

In regards to ergonomics, if they have chamfered all the edges it will more than likely be decent. Given that it is a Seki made knife, however, I wouldn't hold my breath, as the Starmate I handled came with some rather sharp edges (not the good kind). It would be interesting to hear some input from the designer of this blade.

The ergos are way better than they look, and if you know what you're doing you don't need a long blade for defensive work. I originally wanted not to like it, but after holding it, it made a hell of a lot more sense. It was one of the big Spyderco surprises of last year's OKCA for me. It's not my cup of tea, but it felt good in the hand - I can't knock its ergos.

I do think it is funny how much judgement is going on here without holding the knife. I also think that there are far cheaper models for mall ninjas to use. Might I ask, how many years of defensive knife work you've done? My suru likes a SPOT for EDC defensive carry, and many of the people I train with are into swicks, lavas, dragonflys and delicas. The only people who bring in giant, single-edged knives are newbs. Most people who know what they're doing don't want to give a big shiny handle on their weapon to someone else who knows what they're doing.

It looks like a very useable design to me. Handle looks comfortable. Probably has a strong tip.

It looks like a good and fresh design. The blade seems to have some utility to it too. Not the knife for butchering venison but for day to day bags, ties, ropes, etc., it should be okay.

It looks like it would be useful in multiple grips and that choil looks like a sub-hilt to me.

It might make a good last ditch weapon but so would a #2 pencil. :)

I've seen people use a razor blade melted into a toothbrush handle to massive effect. I think the battlestation can probably beat that insofar as ease of use.

Personally, I like soooooo many of the knives coming out from Spyderco in the next year or so...I guess something has to give. I call mulligan on this one. Not that anyone asked for my .02, but I think this one is just dreadful.
