Am about to purchase the Lum.
I would like to use it in rotation as an edc, although I am having a hard time finding any in the Spydie forum, that actually use's one.
it seems most regard the Lum as a "safe queen"

I am 58 years old and just like to have some nice knives for carry, and don't plan on selling them as collector knives, yet I feel guilty using one, because of its status. On a side note, if I really have a bunch of heavy cutting to do, I would use my Endura's or Tenacious my higher end knives mostly see a bit of paper and cardboard also the odd bundle strap. My favorite edc's to date are the Stretch and para's.

I guess I'm just looking for feed back, on the Lum.
Or should I save my money, until the Camo Para is available at my dealer ?

Cautious and unsure

Well I have a regular Lum (Green PE) that is in my EDC rotation and it's a heck of a cutter and very sheeple friendly.

If it wasn't for the Green one the Black Lum would come out of it's box and take it's place in the rotation.

The Lum is a solid, well built, knife and a beautiful design. Only down sides are things so easy to see I have to assume they aren't deal breakers for you. Almite coated aluminum handle does not offer the most secure grip. On the other hand, that makes for a nice light knife. Handle shape does nothing to position your hand. Some people like that, some don't. Not a lot of tang visible, blade is sharp almost all the way back. So like that, some have gotten in bad habits closing knives with built in finger stops.

Thanks fellas, for your responses. :D

Dan re: Handle shape does nothing to position your hand.
This is something to consider, thats what I love about my Para, the hand fits perfectly/naturaly

Sheeple friendly, that's also a good thing , when I'm in that mode,I have been carrying my UKPK great little knife

I've been carrying my ZDP Lum a bit lately. It's a great cutter, but I'm not having much luck convincing myself to like the metal handle. Not too surprising since I haven't had much luck convincing myself to like any metal handle.

Hmmmmmmm metal handle slippery, I'm thinking maybe my Stretch should keep it's position as my first pick edc

It's not entirely due to being slippery, although I admit that is part of my problem with metal handles. Another part of it is thermal conductivity. I carry folders clipped in the leg pockets of my carpenter jeans, and you wouldn't believe how cold those handles get when you are walking around in 10 F weather like we have had lately. With a SS Harpy and a G-10 Endura clipped side-by-side in one pocket, I could feel the Harpy against my leg in a couple of minutes outside, but not the G-10 Endura. Using a metal handled knife with gloves on and then sticking it back in your pocket can be a real shock as well. It doesn't seem as bad with other materials.

The ergos on the Lum Chinese are okay, but I find myself wishing it was a little bigger, probably because my hands are a bit large.

That's what I was thinking also,as I've mentioned before the Para and Stretch have handles that really give you something to hold on to.
Oh by the way the temperature up here is going down to -42 tonight.
Try that with a metal handle, yikes!!

so many times i was about to buy this thing as a safe queen... i love the shape and the materials use... if i had one i would never use it. thats just me, and $200 for a knife is still hard for me to justify.

Check out this thread I have been carring and using this knife for 8 months now, great blade worth the money! I have touched up the blade once. The zdp stays sharp a long time. I use mine in food preparation and around the shop, opening boxes and such. This summer helped me out in the garden every week end. I have a para as well and it has been on a shelf for months now. My EDC rotation is none my LUM edc!!!

Great knife, I carry one with a lanyard that you can put your last two fingers in. I would like to see a textured metal spyderco handle piece.
The Military in 90V and the rough carbon fiber really stays put in the hand. Oil,blood, grease will make a believer of you. Any fixed blade shoud have a wrap for control if it is all metal construction.
