Spyderco bushy

Oi Toucan, no need to be rude :p The "chick" that put the prototypes together did a better job at fit and finish than some US makers I have encountered :D

From a marketing point of view, yeah, shame it couldn't have been made in the US. Actually, shame it couldn't have been made in the UK!!! :D At least that way the Brits would be able to aford one. HMRC has a lot to answer for :grumpy: Unfortunately the UK is short on quality cutlery manufacturers and there was no capacity in the US, nor in Japan. If Sal hadn't found a manufacturer in Taiwan who was already geared for making high precision folder parts, and who was hungry for more, this project would have been dead in the water years ago.

Aren't the Koster knives a simpler to make design and more utilitarian finish?

Especially when its a $15 for a 3 foot long piece of tool steel and likely about the same for the wood then some little Asian chick puts it all together for $4.:jerkit:

Buy from a bladesmith.

Spyderco does not exploit workers. They are very strict on what companies are allowed to make their product and companies go through investigation by Sal personally.

I think so. Compared even to the orignal Koster design the thumb grooves have been reduced by half, the extra lanyard holes have been removed, and the handle is not as contoured. Then as you mention the flats are unfinished and the handle is micarta which is cheaper than wood.

Of course the 3v is more expensive steel than 01.

Toucan,
Seems that you are new around here (BladeForums), maybe unfamiliar with Spyderco as well. Before your hand gets tired ;), I would recommend reading a little bit of the history on this model.

Kind of a long read, but worth it. If it's too long to get through, posts 75, 81, 116 & 121 might be most helpful.

I really like the overall shape and design, just wish they'd offer it in a full flat grind. Oh well, there's always hope for next year!

I personally think it looks like a real winner, just not ready to support a country that I am not too familiar with their economics.

Street price is 150 - 180.

Great price with the sheath - I like the sheath a lot more in the video. I paid 140 for a similar knife from Dan Koster without a sheath. I woudl rather support a local builder - so I bought both! ;)

I just picked one up from Fenix above and hope to have it in in a week or so. I will do a full review. I have been waiting for this one for some time - and I think this is a great price point for what looks like a great knife!
