spyderco byrd or benchmade red?

I like both Byrd and BM Red. I have a ByrdRench that is about as flawless of a tool as any multitool that I have that was made by Leatherman...and LM makes a pretty dang good tool. The alphabet steel that Byrd uses takes a fantastic edge and holds it pretty well for a user knife. The lock up is fine, and I like the fact that I can break the tool down to the very last screw to clean and oil it.

I just picked up a Monochrome last week on a whim. I have to say...I'm very impressed. I knew BM was a great manufacturer of knives. However, for a simple knife from Taiwan this Monochrome pretty much blew me away. The framelock is very tight and secure, the ergonomics of the handle are very nice, and the blade practically launches itself with a slight flick of the thumbstud (even when you aren't trying to open it in such a manner. Very nice balance:thumbup:)

Dare I say, I actually like my Monochrome over my Kershaw Shallot by a slight margin. Actually, the Shallot is very sexy and stylish. However, for an honest to goodness work knife, the Monochrome has a finer edge and a more work friendly profile (straight edge, easy to sharpen, thick spine all the way to the tip).

Either way, Byrd of BM Red, you're going to get a great knife for the money.
