I've been working like a mad man to feed my knife disease. Which of these knives would you buy first?

Ergos are the only thing separating these two great knives . I have the M390 and the aluminum . I also have the caly3.5 and the 3 . The Caly 3.5 wins .

Gawd. I know I love the choil on the Caly. Do you have a preference on the steel?

The Caly 3.5 CF/ZDP was a minor grail of mine for a while, in that I refused to pay more than $120 for one. FINALLY I got one at that price... And the blade was so thin that I had no confidence in it and sold it immediately. The 0770CF, however, is much more stout while still being an excellent cutter. I would choose the 0770 any day of the week, especially since lockbacks are more prone to developing play in my experience.

Nice, nice. I didn't realize the value was thinner. Good info

What is so bad about thin.

Caly's 2.5mm blade isn't too thin for edc... if it wasnt laminated ZDP Id even get it reground thinner. Then again, I only cut and slice with gents folders. No hammering, batoning, prying, or throwing. Your mileage may vary ;)

I suppose it gets more delicate towards the tip due to the blade design. No prob if you slice with knives.

I own both and would go with my Caly 3.5 CF/ZDP 189 way before my ZT 0770 CF/ELMAX.

Nothing against the ZT, the Caly just feels soooo much better. And blade play is no issue on this lockback. IME

Don't forget that they make a 770 in M4 as a knives ship free dealer exclusive.
Between the zdp or the M4, I don't know. That would come down to proposed usage. My needs are satisfied fine by the ZT0770cfM4.

Unfortunately I don't have a caly 3.5 on hand to compare against but I have been carrying an 0770cf around for the last year. I like most aspects of it accept the blade shape. Functionally it's been fine, visually I'm not in love with it. Overall a solid knife if you want an assisted flipper that is pretty light weight.

Actually, I got to talk to Derrick before he moved to Michigan from Hillsboro. It was awesome. He had his exclusive ZT m4 770 with the sexy black dlc that he was stroping on a 3 micron CBN strop. It's a very attractive blade and sharpens quicker then Elmax. But currently its out of my price range of below $200.
Also I'm more interested in edge retention in steels with less vanadium.

I've owned both, the caly 3 cf in particular.

The caly is a carbon fibre laminate over G-10, whereas the 0770 CF is full carbon fibre handles.
I don't care for assisted knives, which is why I'm currently selling my 0770. The aluminum version de-assists fine, but not the CF one.
The caly has a full backspacer, which makes cleaning more time consuming and more work.
The 0770 has a very unique blade shape, which is good for pull cuts. However, I prefer the versatility of the leaf shaped blade.

My vote is for the caly unless you absolutely have to have full CF handles.

They're both CF. The Sage and the Bradley are laminated though but hey maybe your's is different. I just stare at pictures all day.

It's rad all you guys bought both (great taste) any preference between Elmax and zdp?

The difference is full carbon fibre handles vs g-10 laminate. I have owned both of these knives.

Never held a Caly but today I got a 0770CF and it's a pretty good knife. Thin with a big blade for its size/weight and the CF scales are really nice. I'm liking this knife.

I don't have a Caly 3.5 CF, but the Caly 3 CF is my favorite Spyderco. If the Caly 3.5 CF is anything like its smaller sibling, then I'd expect it to be awesome as well. The 0770CF is also an awesome EDC knife. Both knives are great designs and executed brilliantly. Great ergos, discrete and comfortable carry, and great blade shape for many EDC uses. When I reach for a Spyderco, it's usually either the Caly3 or Delica. I've actually been carrying my 0770CF for the past couple of weeks.

I really want a Caly 3.5, but honestly CF is a deal breaker for me. Lol. I'd go with that one, personally.

I love all the calys. I bought 2 3.5 zdp models a few years ago and the user gets a lot of business. It is beautiful, gets sharp, and slices like a laser for me. Did I mention it is beautiful?
