I got tired of debating whether or not I should get one of these, so I just ordered a brand-new Caly 3.5, G-10/VG-10 for $107.34, shipped to my door. I should have it in a few days. My expectations are extremely high, so I hope this knife does not disappoint.

As some of you know, I've been asking dozens of questions about this knife. I've looked at hours and hours worth of video. I really wanted the Caly 3, but didn't want the current steel that's being offered, so I went with the Caly 3.5.

I'm really looking forward to experience all the hype this knife has. I hope it doesn't fall short on its delivery.

There's always a danger of building up something so much that there is going to be a let down. I don't think this will be one of those times though. The Caly 3.5 is fantastic! In fact, it has been my EDC for the last 2 weeks. A pocket light saber.

It's the only knife I have been carrying lately. Nice size blade that carries easy, also love how the blade and the handle have a bit of curve, great slicer, all round EDC

I've got one in my pocket as I type this.

The Caly 3.5 is the accumulation of everything that Spyderco does best. imo

Comfortable handle, nice finger choil, deep carry wire pocket clip, and all at a reasonable price.

It also does one thing that imo a lot of Spyderco knives miss the mark on, which is feature a nice blade to handle ratio.

Please, for your own sake lower down you "extremely high expectations". g10/VG10 Caly3.5 is a very good knife, great knife I would say. One of them is in my front right pocket as I type. One more, exactly the same is at home, I called it "back-up".I EDC this knife since they came out. it is in top three of my 100+ spydercos I ever owned. But there are no knife for everybody. There are people who do not like this knife. Keep in the mind that this is production knife and Caly3.5 doesn't cost as much as Sebenza, so expect that some blade play is possible, some grittiness of action is possible as well. There is a very good chance that you will be happy with this knife, but may be not. So keeping expectation lower can help to enjoy this knife.
BTW, if you really need VG10/G10 Caly3, it shows up on the bay time from time. I love this knife too.

Thanks. I'll know soon enough, as I just got my shipping notice and should have it Saturday.

The Caly 3.5 is, in my opinion, one of the best knives that Spyderco has ever produced. I'm very happy that they are currently available (and not some long ago sold out sprint or discontinued run), are ambidextrous, are offered in a a couple steels (VG-10, ZDP-189, Aogami Super) and, when closed, that they aren't much bigger than a Caly 3. The wire pocket clip is great, the weight is excellent, and the grind is one of the thinnest you'll see among production knives.

Seriously. It's that good. I count it right up there with the Spyderco Military.

Wise, wise words!!

Great knife, congratulations on getting it. I'm sure if your disappointed in the least, I'll bet there are several members who would buy it from you just to relieve your pain. The lower the discounted price, the faster the relief for you. 'Everybody' wins! On a more serious note, I am interested in how the knife meets your expectations as I've been considering buying it as well. Everyone reacts differently but it is nice to read all the comments/opinions of others.

My caly 3.5 is literally the only folder I bother to carry anymore, if I carry another knife its my Izula 2. Yes its that good.

Slightly OT - so forgive me but, PatrickKnight - we have agreed about the Caly 3.5 in several other threads. I too carry my VG-10 Caly 3.5 more than any other folder and whilst I have several other nice fixed blade knives of various sizes, I ordered the Izula 2 last week. Should be picking it up on Sunday when I am back Stateside.

Odd coincidence or great taste?!?

Cheers,

Ben

Mr. Sal must have used some black magic on the Caly 3.5, because you would swear that the blade is longer than the scales in which it resides. I don't know how he does that. But the knife is one of my all time favorites. Its so thin and small in the pocket, especially with that deep clip, but folds out into a serious blade. Best of both worlds. And then there is that cougar thing, if you remember what I'm talking about. Link.

hmmm....I was thinking the Stretch was next for me...but this thread is pulling me towards the caly!

Excuse me sir,
With all due respect you are wrong. I have confirmed information that Sal was using white magic. :)

Great knife! I wish it was screw together instead of pinned.

When I 1st started looking at this knife, I said that too, but was quickly met by a wall of folks who suggested that there's really no need/reason to take a folder apart, ,as long as you can remove the blade. Not quite having this knife in my hands as of yet, I'm with you. I'd think it's always preferable to have the ability to take off the scales and break the knife down for whatever reason.
