I guess you can say this is like a early birthday present for me, I was wondering which I should get as a general EDC folder. So far I have reduced my wanted list to Caly 3 (ZDP) and Dejavoo.

Which do you guys prefer?

Thanks!!

Two very different knives. In size and mechanics.

Caly3 is a rock solid lock-up knife that you can grip with all 4 fingers thanks to the choil. This knife folds up really small and is hardly noticable in the pocket due to its small folded-up size, and its deep carry pocket clip.

The dejavoo is huge compared to the caly3, you might want to consider the MINI-Dejavoo. Even the mini-voo is noticably larger than the caly 3. Lock-up on the dejavoo's is wimpy and I wouldn't trust it.

do some homeworrk, and you'll see mainly negative reviews for the Dejavoo. You won;t see one bad review on the Caly III. Check out the Benchmade 940 as well. If I were buyin' a new knife it would be the 940.

I like Benchmades if they have the Axis lock (Dejavoo doesn't), but to be honest, I have yet to see a better EDC than the ZDP Caly (could have used grippier scales, though). I got one for my Wife a while back and have been trying to steal it ever since I handled it!lol Get the ZDP Caly!!! Regards, Steve

Caly 3 all the way. Probably one of the best knives avaliable in that price range. I love mine like I love rum and hot chicks. It's creepy, I know.

I'm gonna add another vote for the Caly 3. While my G10 Caly 3 isn't my fav Spyderco (the Paramilitary is), it's my most carried and used Spyderco. It's done everything from warehouse work cutting tape, cardboard, electrical insulation and thin wiring, to trimming bushes and opening mail at home to making fuzz sticks and walking sticks while camping. Nothing bothers it.

In fact, the only two knives I've EDC'd for the last 6 months or so are a Caly 3 and a small regular Sebbie. I rotate between them because I can't decide which one I like better.

Yes, it is kind of boring but I have to agree with the others, get yourself a Caly III. Fell in love with it the first time I handled it.

I was buying a folder every two weeks and then I got the Caly 3. I havn't purchased another folder since. Now for some reason I want custom knives??
Anyway Caly 3 never leaves my pocket and I love this knife. Just my $.02.

Go with the BM Dejavoo! you won't be dissapointed!!!

Ok, another reply...

Caly3. Perfect for edc IF......

-you want something to leave room in your pocket for other small things that will provide ease of putting your hand in the pocket.

-you want a blade that robust and precise at the same time.

-you enjoy utilitarian SIMPLICITY. riveted construction (sans the pivot)

-few parts (less to lose or screw up)

-pivot bolt/"nut" is very robust and thick

-No washers allow for ZERO blade play in any direction. (the downside is every now and then your opening will have a "sandy" sound and feel. but a few open/close cycles will rid it of that quickly.)

-FULL 4 FINGER GRIP!!!! while mantaining a small size

I must say, that when this thing opens and locks, the sound and feel is great. SOLID and reasurring.

peace.

I own both of them. I have the Caly in zdp and vg-10. For a small inconspicuous folder go with the Caly. Either steel is great, the vg-10 holds up stupidly well with the blade grind. I really have not noticed a major difference in cutting ability between the zdp or vg version. I know that there is a difference but the caly's blade profile brings out the best of either steel. As for the BM it is an excellent knife as well, albeit much larger. I too was unimpressed with the lock when I first started carrying it, but it has held up to lots and lots of outdoor use and I now trust it completely. It is titanium so it has more strength than a similarly sized stainless steel liner has. For the naysayers I have to believe that they have no first hand experience with the benchmade dejavoo.
The two knives are similar only in the fact that both have an excellent blade profile that brings out the excellent cutting potential of the various steels used. So depending on what you are looking for as far as size is concerned you can't go wrong with either one. Hell, do yourself a favor and buy them both.

Caly3 definitely! I have th ZDP/carbonfibre laminated version and it is fantastic.
The ZDP just devours thick cardboard and other hard to cut things.

I like any Lum design but prefer the new Spyderco Chinese Lum to the dejavoodo.

For a Benchmade i would go with the classic 710 in D2.

get the caly 3 better steel better handle and way better lock
the dejavoo has a weak liner lock
