Hi All,

I am thinking of possibly getting a Spyderco Centofante 3.

What can you tell me about that knife?

-It would be my first Spyderco knife

Which role are you looking for it to fill? i.e. what kind of work

It is a very nice knife. It is lightweight, with a hollow ground 2mm thick blade which cuts very well. The edge-holding is pretty good, being VG-10. For the average user, that is more than good enough. Many folks here find it a perfect balance between ease of sharpening and edge holding ability. Altogether, it is a great gentleman's knife.

It's a pretty good knife, affordable, lightweight, and slim. Because the blade is nice and slim it has a lot of cutting power. The ergonomics are also excellent.

Thanks for the responses

Can anyone confirm that the Centofante is 100% made/assembled in the Golden plant in Colorado?

The Centofante is made in Seki City, Japan.

Can others verify this?

I read that it was made in Colorado

"This popular lockback folder features a 3.13 in. Spear point blade of premium VG-10 stainless steel, and 4.43 in. black handle of FRN. Inlcudes pocket clip. Made in Golden Colorado plant."

What Models are made in Golden Colorado?

The rule of thumb is Vg10, Zdp 189, H1 models are made in Japan. CPM steel models i.e S30v, S90V , D2 are made at Golden, There are a couple of exceptions such as the Sage ( Taiwan).... actually that's the only one I can think of at the moment.

Country of origin is beginning to be irrelevant as to quality. For Spyderco, it already is. The Seki plant makes great knives.

Do you regard a Knife made in Japan as good?

That's a loaded question that may start a short, harmless debate about what patriatism is . . .

I consider many Seki City production knives to have some of the best workmanship in production knives today. A Spyderco is going to meet the company's expectations in all cases, price point considered, regardless where it's made. I personally consider Japanese Spydercos to be as well made as their USA knives. I've got some super nice favorites from both places as far as materials and workmanship goes and I've had some minor, sour experiences. By far, nearly all Spydercos are going to be keepers out of the box anyway.

Like bondankers mentioned, choose your Sypderco by what you find appealing, what gets good reviews and what steel you want. If you have a global mindset, the Japan part shouldn't matter.

i have not had a centofante but i have a few spydercos and ill never carry anything different .... i am addicted to them and nothing...not even benchmade matches their quality and performance

I tend to prefer the Seki made models in terms of final fit & finish, however what influences my decision at the end of the day apart from the overall design is the blade steel & it's intended use. Locks which are easily manipulated with one hand get preference (especially if being used at work).
My Seki made Vg10 Caly Jr is my lil' pocket lightsaber, My Golden made D2 Para is in permanent EDC, the S30v Chinook is my tough hefty brute and a S30V SE Native is my beater.
Country of manufacture has never come into consideration when purchasing any of these.

while the centofante 3 is a good knife, my only problem with it is that i have a little trouble opening it sometimes. the thumb hole is a bit too close to the frn.

the spyderco delica and native open easier for me personally.

i also have a bit of trouble flicking mine open. it's still a great EDC knife and hides pretty well in the pocket. i will probably sell it though because i have a caly 3 CF coming in the mail tomorrow, so that will probably replace it.

I picked one up last week and have been using it as an EDC since. Very nice knife -- slender and lightweight -- I don't notice it in my pocket, yet it's (As expected for a Spyderco) very solidly constructed and not flimsy at all. Used it for everything from slicing fruit to cutting brush and it's worked like a charm.

Only issue is that the little silver bug on the handle is missing a bit off the end of one leg, but that's minor for me, since I got to be used, not to look pretty in a display case (Though it certainly does look pretty.)
