Since i got the Spyderco Chaparral i always wondered how similar the knife felt in the hand to the Strider PT!
They both share the same dimensions, same CPM-s30v steel and a finger choil wich is the attribute that makes me think of the PT when i have it in hand.
The Strider is way more pricy and rougher looking than the Chaparral but i can't help but feel that the Chaparral is a distant and more classier cousin of the PT:)

Wow, the blade and handle lines are way more similar than I would have guessed.

Same here.

Thanks for the great pics. I've held off on the Chaparral since I have a Sage 1 with same materials, and only a tad bigger. But the Chaparral looks really great, and I like a good lockback. That should be enough to justify the purchase of one, lol.

One of the things that attracts me to the Chaparral is the rather thin blade. Perhaps it was from growing up on traditional slipjoints, but I really enjoy the performance of a thinner blade.

thanks for for all the comments so far:)

I hear ya.
The Chaparral has the thinest blade i ever had on a folder and it cuts extremely well
Very classy EDC.

Only handeled the Chaperral one time but to me it felt alot like a smaller Manix 83.

Nice comparison pics!

I think that the Chaparral looks better than the PT...

I know this is old, but yes, this. It seems to be common to have a 3mm width on most of the popular modern knives that aren't tanks. I have a Kershaw Blur that is that width, and while I like the cutting power, it seems just a little too thick for the purpose of a pocket knife I'm not going to abuse with prying. For instance, when I try to cut an apple, once it gets to the spine it basically starts to break the apple. I guess you'd call that my slicer test. I'm hoping to give the chaparral a try, as literally everything else that size and above in modern folders seems to be wider by at least .5mm. I'd ask someone to do a trade for a week or so to let me give it a shot, but I doubt they would enjoy my not-so-pretty knives. I use them on a day to day basis and they look the part.

A lot of the current crop of Spyderco knives look to me to be slightly one - off's of their Caly 3, and that's a good thing. I don't see the resemblance to other maker's knives, but I also have very little to no imagination, so it could very well be just me.
