My Spyderco Chinook III arrived today. I had been eyeing this one for sometime as I really like the bowie blade look and the S30V on my Native has been holding up extremely well.

I knew from the specs that it was going to be one of the larger Spyderco's I own (Persian-large, Native, Salt 1, Spyderfly, & Harpy), but the thing that really struck me was the width of the blade, especially as the pivot attachment - Wow.

Here are a few pics..

Here is a pic comparing the size to a Salt 1...

Here is an in-hand pic. The handle is fairly large and easily accommodates my hand.

This is a lot of knife for a folder. Just thought I would share a few pics.

I have had all 3 versions of the Chinook. This last one is the best; so far. Knowing Spyderco they might "evolve" it some more. :)

Do you still have the Chinook 1 & 2?

I side-by-side of all 3 would be interesting to see, especially to see how the design has evolved.

I have the Chinook II and it is indeed a great knife. I wondered if it was worth selling the II to get the III but I'm not sure if there are enough 'improvements' to merit this. Plus, I like the fact that my II has James Keating's signature on it.

It is a bummer I only took a picture of the one side then... the other side of my III does have James Keating's signature on it.

Well... cool! In all the pics I've seen the signature wasn't there so I assumed it had fallen away for some reason. I wonder why they moved it to the 'back' of the knife?

Very nice knife. But why is there no David Boye dent in the back lock? Spyderco seems to put one on most of their other lockbacks. Anyone know why there isn't one on the Chinook III?

Probably for the same reason they didn't put one on the Manix. I guess Sal & co figured the lock was secure enough without one. Both Manix and Chinook are built like tanks.

Yes.Its a very nice knife I also have the chinook 3.I love the flat ground blade and solid build of the beast. It kind of looks like a rino to me.It has a massive lockup.I like it so much I am thinking of getting a full size manix before they are all gone. The only thing stopping me is I have a mini manix. And another reason spyderco will probibly come out with a manix 2 with the newest materials,Maybe 2010??.

Congrats on your Chinook III:thumbup:I have one & love it.It's one of my favorite beefy folders.Locks up like a vault!;)

No I only have the 3 these days. When I found out about the 2, I traded off the 1, and when I found out about the 3, I traded(maybe sold) the 2. If I ever find out about a 4; Well, we will see. ;)

Don't you just love the "CLICK!" it makes when you open it?
That's a folder you can trust NOT to fold when you don't want it too.
Cuts like a dream, too.

Isn't the Chinook III great? I received my first a week ago and it has become my EDC. What a monster this knife is. The locking sound of the blade is so addicting to hear. I love it. Great pics KnifeFury.

I love my Chinook3. I am selling my Emerson because it never gets any use now.
I like the Manix but I prefer the Chook3 because of the useful point and the looks.
The clunk the lock makes is awesome. It does not need the Boyle detent because the button is not long enough. Compare it to a knife with a detent and you will see what I mean. It won't open from a squeeze.

I am a hardcore fixed blade guy but the Chinook3 is an exception. The blade is fantastic with the flat grind. I much prefer the flat grind to the previous models. It also hides well clipped in the pocket for a big knife.
