Spyderco D'Allara

Somewhere in between the Endura and the Manix?

Essentially yes. A work/utility knife which offers greater handle strength than the Endura without moving up to the price range of the Manix/Chinook class.

Is it slightly better ground than the Endura?

Similar height grind though thinner as it is hollow, and edge thickness/angle.

It has steel liners for the ball-lock? From one of the pictures, it looks like it has a steel backspacer too?

Yes, the liners are full width as well.

I am a big fan of Spyderco, but there are a couple of things I don't like about the D'Allara, the wire clip and the way the cutting edge ends near the tang with that little notch.

I would prefer no choil notch as well, its main purpose is to keep a clean sharpening line. What don't you like about the wire clip - retention?

Hi Cliff,

Appreciate the effort and the input. We always appreciate input, good or bad.

(Imagine how sh*tty it would be if no one cared about your product enough to make comment :o )

Appearance more than anything Cliff, just never warmed up to the look. As for my remark about the choil notch, it is more trouble than it is worth. Looks like Sal is considering changes to this fine knife. That's what I love about Spyderco, they listen. I will put one in my pocket if the notch goes. Thanks to Mr. Glesser for reading this thread and thanks to everyone who contributes to it.

Sal, mainly good on this one, I have a few concerns and noted them in the other thread but nothing major.

I can see the appearance of the wire clip being an issue as it does contrast strongly with the knife, but I really like the ergonomics in a tight grip. I think you could do the same in a flat clip, you just need to really round the corners and possibly actually arc the clip itself.

I guess I swim against the tide regarding the choil notch.

One of the first things I've done on my Spydercos is use the Dremel cutoff wheel to cut a shallow choil notch - specifically so I can hone the edge cleanly to the base of the edge.

I applaud the addition of the choil notch.

I never realized it was priced so close to the Waved Delica and Endura.

I just bought both waved knives (arriving shortly in the mail)... I should've swapped one of them for the D'Allara.
