I'm thinking about getting one of the flat ground plain edge Delicas. What is your opinion on this knife? Anything better in that price range ($55-60) to look at? Thanks.

It is the perfect edc knife. Its light, comofrtable, opens smooth, good steel ect. there are so many options of colors to choose also. my zdp one is one of my favorite knives. i havnt heard anything bad that is not preferance based

Agree with the above, and even the sprints with unusual steels are not bad. I just bought a Super Blue sprint for $100 and you can probably find ZDP-189 versions for about the same. Another benefit: unique among Spyderco models, the D4 and E4 have repair kits available from the factory.

Delica 4 is a great EDC knife. It has great slicing geometry and is very ergonomic.

It was just an OK knife for me. Didn't like the blade shape at all and it wasn't the most comfortable feeling knife for my hands.

I think it's one of the best folding knives made, and a helluva deal at its price. It's light, thin, versatile in carry options, carries well, cuts well, is generally easy to maintain, and it can take a lot of hard (practically abusive) usage that most knives in that price point cannot.

I personally prefer the VG-10 versions with the standard saber grinds, but every Delica ever made has been great, and both the saber and flat grinds are of excellent quality.

The standard VG-10 steel is tough as nails, easy to sharpen, and gives good overall performance. The upgraded steels historically used have given a big boost edge retention/wear resistance, and are excellent performer at cutting abrasive materials like cardboard and certain rope/fiber that tends to quickly dull knives, but sometimes at the expense of lesser toughness, lesser corrosion resistance, and more difficulty in sharpening, so these are a great match for some users and terrible for others, depending upon usage and preferences. The upgraded steels also increase price a good bit. So a ZDP-189 or SuperBlue Delica may be great for you, or the standard VG-10 model may be as well.

The Spyderco Delica 4 is an excellent knife. Try one!

The only thing I don't like about my Delica 4 is the vertical blade play when applying downward pressure when cutting on a cutting board, for example when slicing biltong. It makes a click noise when it does this. It doesn't really affect the performance, it's just irritating. What I've read Sal referring to as "Seki pop". Just something to bare in mind.

It's my favorite sub $100 EDC I only have the Aogami Super Blue sprint run, but I'd love to get a normal VG-10 in the future. I'd highly recommend the Delica, it's very good slicer!

A LOT of great options from Spyderco at that price point. Delica, Centofante, Native 5 LW, Manix 2 FRCP... You really can't go wrong with any of them.

Sounds like a great knife, I might order one. What is the best price, and where should I order it from?

It is the best bang for the buck in a knife. It will serve you well if it's not abused. There are so many places that have them. Look here first and then get online type in spyderco delica and pick and choose. Choose a reputable dealer that will assist you if you have issues.

You mean like generation 5 or something, or just a new version of the gen 4 with new steel/handle combo? I'd quicker see them release a new version of gen 4 than an actual gen 5 since the gen4 is so popular as it is.

The Delica4 FFG was one of my most frequently carried EDC blades for a while. It was only recently succeeded by a Caly3 CF, but that is nowhere near the same price range.

Some others in that $55-60 range (or less) worth considering -- composite blade Leek, Blur, Skyline, Endura4 FFG
You might be able to find these in your price range on the exchange / secondary market -- S30V Blur, Mini-Griptilian

If you're considering a Delica, though, I'd go ahead and do it. It really is an awesome knife.

The Delica and the Endura are awesome EDC options, they're basically identical just different sizes. I love Spyderco FFG blades, when sharpened properly they will slice like a laser beam. I personally like the larger size so I went with the Endura. It's kind of funny, I never liked lock back knives before getting these, but now I'm a fan. In each type, there are basically 3 options:
-FFG
-Sabre grind
-Emerson Opener (wave)

These are the standard production models and are generally made in VG-10, which is a solid mid range steel (better than AUS8/8Cr, not quite S30V) that will be fine for 99% of normal EDC type tasks. As others have mentioned, there are others in various limited production sprint runs that use other steels like the Aogami steels and ZDP189.

Pick whatever makes you happy, you really can't go wrong with any of them, it's about your own personal preference.

I carried a delica for years on duty until I lost it in the sticks. I now carry an Endura and dragonfly but I need to buy another Delica :)

It's arguably the perfect knife. Just get one. But if you're willing to stretch a little further the Caly 3 or 3.5 are awesome as well. I'm a big fan of G10 and the wire pocket clip.
