Spyderco Delica 4 Opinions

It's only missing a deep carry wire clip and it would be ideal for me.

I'll say it every time....all EDC knives should come with a deep carry option. Perhaps a feature on the Delica5

I have 2 Delica's and a Caly 3.5 that I rotate for EDC. I think they are great for that purpose. I had one in ZDP that I traded for the Caly, I just couldn't sharpen it to my liking. You should be able to get it from a dealer for $50-60.

i havnt heard anything bad that is not preferance based

Derek nailed it. I love my delica, but besides all the good things people mention, here are a couple points that are an issue of preference (with three e's ;) ):

-Only 2.5" of edge for 4.25" of handle. If pocket space is at a premium, or you want an unintimidating, "small knife" while retaining as much edge to use as possible, this ain't it.

-Medium duty, as someone else mentioned. Probably great for your EDC though, unless you're a lumberjack.

-"Seki Pop": I've never heard it called this (as was already posted) but the locks on every example I've handled do have an audible click under pressure. The click is the only evidence of this though, the blade stays in place, shifting imperceptibly.

-Crap magnet: This knife is skeletonized and a lock-back. It holds lint and sand and mud in there like nobody's business. Again, if you aren't the aforementioned lumberjack, this isn't a real worrisome issue.

I love my delica, but the edge to handle ratio is finally pushing it out of my pocket for a Kershaw Knockout. To be fair, I still pair the delica with a Ka-Bar fixed blade for the perfect pair of knives for the outdoors. If you do get one, be sure to order an aftermarket titanium deep carry clip from a user here, "the original spaceman". Cheap and well worth the money, makes the knife 2x better IMO.

For the price range, you can't find a better slicing or carrying knife. The thing is damn near perfect.

Like others in this thread, I think its a great EDC knife; thin, light, good ergos, modest price, good steel, sized right for most normal cutting tasks, and available in many handle colors. It is one of the knives that helped me refine my size preferences for EDC and for me it is just about the perfect size as long as a 3" blade (2.5" cutting edge) is permissible.

I gave mine away. It wasn't faulty, I just didn't like it.
Two main reasons:
1. big handle for the blade
2. Handle too thin. I would lose control when peeling an apple.

I've always been an Endura kind of guy, particularly the FFG offerings in that model. Recently I picked up an orange, FFG Delica and within a day of carry and use I was converted. Still like and appreciate my Enduras but the Delica is just superb. For every day, around the house/office cutting chores it's perfect. I doubt that my EDC line-up will ever be without one from now on.

I started with the Endura first too thinking it was "right" for me. Have a couple of them. Picked up a Delica later when I noticed I carried and Endura "with me" but not "on me". I need a knife "on me".

No, I do not think there is a better value on the market over the Spyderco Delica. If I had to choose one edc knife the Delica would probably be it.

Lightweight
Good steel
Phenomenal ergonomics
Thin
Spyderco quality and warranty
Easy deployment.

If you can't tell I highly recommend the Delica.

One cool thing I forgot to mention in my first post is that owning a Delica is really owning a piece of history in the history of edged tools.

While the Worker really started this era of one-handed openers without a switch blade, the Delica and Endura lines are really the knives that brought this era of change on a wide-scale basis and when the popularity of this style knife blew up. Now, practically every folding knife (that isn't a traditional design) aims for this.

I carried my Delica for several years exclusively. I've moved on, but it does get rotated in occasionally. I've tried to make myself sell or trade it before, but I just can't seem to let it go! I love the ergos. It is a great EDC and superb bang for the buck as others have said.
