Spyderco Delica 4 or Gerber Air Ranger?

Whats your recommendation and why?

I'm really looking for something tough that can take a pretty good beating and still last a lifetime. I like to keep my knives in the sub-$50 range. I want a strong lock that can work one-handed. They both work one handed, but the gerber with the liner-lock is probably faster. Would the aluminum handles be stronger than FRN? Which lock would you think is stronger? The Delica obviously has better steel, and is probably better made, but I also like the design of the Air Ranger.

What are you opinions?

The Delica 4 has nested steel liners under the FRN. The mid-lock on the Spyderco is stronger than the Gerber liner lock (or just about any liner lock for that matter). VG-10 is better steel than I have ever seen on any Gerber (even when they were US made). The FRN is highly impact and scuff resistant. It will still look like new if it falls out of your car window at 30 mph (if you can find it ;) ) It gives better grip, and doesn't feel as hot or cold as a metal handle when you carry it in an outside pocket outdoors.

For me, it would be a no-brainer. Delica.

Of course, my usual solution is buy both :D

Yep. A no brainer. Spyderco  Gerber:thumbdn: Just better built, better materials, better company. Period.

Go with the Gerber. You'll find that it has superior steel and is better made than any Spyderco.........PYSCHE!!!The Delica rules. No doubt. You said something about lifelong service. Spyderco has a lifetime warranty. The other place does not. Gerber is a four letter word. They are no longer the company that they once were. I've even owned both at one time or another.

I'll jump on the Gerber stompin' bandwagon. The Delica 4 is a much, much better knife. Comparing a Gerber to a Spyderco these days is pretty much a non-contest. Spyderco beats them soundly on every level. The only area where Gerber might be ahead is in number of units sold, because they have no problem with making cheap crap and selling it cheaply to people who don't know any better. You can buy Gerber "knives" at Target. Gerber is slightly above Magnum or Fury, but below CRKT in the quality department. Did I mention Gerber sucks?

Without question go with Spyderco. You'll have a superior blade from a superior company. Gerber has flushed itself down the toilet in my book.

Don't listen to these people. The Gerber Air Ranger Rocks!
(as long as you use it as a paper weight)

Thats it! ,,, I can't stand it any more ... I'm going out and buying myself a Delica ... maybe two ... Spyderco has been nuttn' but good ta' me, I just have never bought the Delica ... but I'm gonna' now ...

WOOK (gone shopping)

Delica!

But?

Plain edge or Spyderedge, Wave or not.....;)

For the moment I only have three different Delicas, but one more is soon joining the family :)
