Spyderco Delica FFG or Cold Steel Voyager Clip Medium????

Would it be worth the extra $30 for a mini grip, I have heard about the spring breaking for the lock. And does the grip have play??

I wouldn't hesitate to get a mini grip. I just posted in another thread about how much I like them. I just got my new one in the mail yesterday.
It is from the Benchmade website special order. It has a plain edge S30V blade, OD green scales, silver hardware and a polished arrowhead clip.

I edc'd one for about 4 years. At the time, I was using my knives daily, and a lot of times not real gentle with it. It held up great. I have had other Benchmades with the Axis lock, and have never had a spring fail. I don't know what some guys do to them to cause them to break, but I wouldn't worry about it.
They are a great knife. I have big hands, but the mini grip is a perfect fit for me. It is small enough though, that it is easily pocketed.
The mini grip actually has quite a following. I don't think you would be disappointed with one. If you decide to get one, do some searching, because the regular mini grip can be had for under 70 dollars shipped.

+1 for the MiniGrip. I've tried to carry something else just because I've got so many really nice knives but when it comes down to EDC, nothing has yet measured up to the "lowly" MiniGrip.

It stays put in my pocket, doesn't take up much space (hardly noticeable), is very comfortable in my hand, has enough blade, and a sturdy enough blade, to do anything I want to with it, and is the quickest, easiest knife to deploy and get back into my pocket that I've ever found. I can usually get it out, open, cut what I need to and have it closed and back in my pocket before anyone even notices.

So, let's see - great ergos (always subject to each individual), great blade to size/weight ratio, easy and quick to use, great lock, good looking blade design (another subjective one), fairly inexpensive - I guess that about wraps it up. I've carried mine over 6-7 years with no problem ever. Oh, yeah, and its really fun to open and close.

Just to be fair to the original question, I carried a Delica for about 10-12 years before I discovered the MiniGrip. Its a great knife, too, just not as much fun or as sturdy as the MiniGrip.

I had a medium Voyager, and really liked it. The only thing bad about it was, the clip is very tight, and I had to sand down the scale underneath the clip, because it was really hard to get in and out of pocket.

The medium voyager fits PERFECTLY and securely in the watch pocket of jeans. Who cares if it shreds the watch pocket a little (hasn't so far, though)? The clip fits great over the lip of the pocket too.
Again, I think comparing a Delica and an Endura to a med and lg Voyager is like comparing apples and oranges. The Voyagers will totally outclass the Spydercos in strength and durabilty, but Spyderco wins in all remaining categories. Thats why I say get both and have the best of both worlds.

If you're gonna only open boxes, letters, cut paper and other lighter duty chores the spyderco.

If you plan on going after things like I do with folders like carve up dead palm fronds, hard wood, clamshell packages, and other harder tasks, the cold steel will do better.

I own both and when doing harsher cutting tasks the cold steel is sturdier allows for better control and fares and performs better, imho.

The delica is built for lighter edc tasks. The voyager is built for harder use tasks. Both can do both, but imho they perform best as I described above.

i actually like the delica much better than the mini grip
it feels more comfortable and solid in my opinion, and i really like the ffg blade
but both are great knives, so you cant really go wrong

I have both, Voyager, no doubt for me. Even if VG10 is better than AUS8A ( but there is no such big difference ) the lock is far from Tri ad and has a rather flimsy handle. For me, the only plus it would be the "wave" .

Out of the three put forth the CS is a nice balance of cutting performance and toughness (they do a good job with AUS8). The Spyderco is the best slicer due to stock thickness and FFG, VG10 takes a nice edge and holds it some better than the CS. The Grip, with its saber grind is a prybar in comparison to the other two (which is good for some tasks), and it has pretty good ergos.
They are all good, but quite different.

I have both and I really prefer the delica 4 but the delica wouldn't stand up to what I put my med voyager through.

Delica for my purposes works exceptionally well. Cutting, and scraping, and slicing of all sorts of matter. I believe that it is a strong platform. I will agree that aus8 is a steel made for abuse, but Vg10 sharpens quicker and with a better edge. So as others have said, it does come down to what you are looking for in a blade. If it matters, I think Spyderco wins all over the place for anyone who uses blades in cold weather and /or gloves. Gotta love that Spyder hole.

I own the larger versions of both. I think they're both equally awesome, and which one you get depends on whether you want thinner and lighter with more edge retention, and better rust resistance, or thicker in the handle, with a more secure grip, easier sharpening and a stronger lock.
