Spyderco Delica or Benchmade 556 mini Grip.

I went with a ritter grip which has a high flat grind opposed to the option of a FFG on a delica. Both knives I feel are wonderful, I do not own a delica yet but trust me I will have a few and I want more mini grips. I'd like to try both the clip and sheepsfoot for a mini grip. I want a waved delica and a few colors, also with matching enduras but that is off topic. I like the axis better than a back lock but I have nothing against a back lock. They are both very strong for what a pocket knife should be used for, especially the axis lock. Most people don't even need a locking knife to be honest, and I always say if you question the lock, get a fixed blade. Damn I can't stay on topic.

It is a ford vs Chevy kinda thing I guess. Me personally? I like the blue benchmade boxes, and I like the blue oval so..yea. But I'm not partial to any truck. They all have pro's and con's....off topic again...

I would just close your eyes and pick one, then later buy the other. You will not be dissapointed with either knife. I'm sure of that. I would definitely look into the Mini Ritter Grip if I were you. I find it to be much more appealing and you get S30V with it as well. With a small extra fee of course but it is worth it. If you can't choose try the grip first like I did. It cost a little more than a delica I think, but I also think you get a slightly better knife. (I'm not too sure, I traded for my ritter)

I'll put it this way:
The delica is to spyderco as the griptilian is to benchmade

Very comparable, both great, like comparing a granny smith apple and a red apple. Both are apples, both are tastey, just one looks differant and has a different taste.

I love both the Delica 4 and the Mini Griptilian, but I'll qualify that by saying the 555, which has a thumbhole instead of a thumb stud. But if we are comparing the Delica and the 555 MG, I would prefer the 555.

Multiples of both here. I choose delica as I prefer how thin the handle is, in hand, the hole (on spydercos of course :p) and back lock. Its action is absolutely perfect for me taboot(open to close sequence). To each his own.

Cant imagine any folder being easier to close one handed then a delica

Indeed, that's the same way I open and close mine. Very, very quick.

I don't have a mini-grip, but I have been faced with the same choice a few years ago. I chose the Delica because
a) it cost less at
b) similar qualities with regards to steel, build quality,...
c) I have more trust in backlocks than I do with locks that have thin springs
d) FFG blade
e) lightweight

I now own two delica's. I still want to try out a grip or mini grip, but everytime I'm on the edge of buying one, I back out. I keep thinking: why would I pay an extra 20-30 USD if I could get yet another Delica.

I didn't say the Delica was hard to close one-handed. That's the usual way I close mine too. The mini-grip is easier still. Fewer hand movements involved and no "flicking" required. You just have to disengage the lock and, if the knife isn't tilted and closes on its own, nudge the blade to close it.

Benchmade 154CM any day over VG10. The Delica is a nice thin ground but the edge holding is not too good.

I don't own a mini grip, but the delica is freakin` awesome. I plan on getting another one later, maybe the zdp or super blue sprint

+1 on the Rat 2. I'm new here but have carried small folders for over 40 years and also own the Delica 4, Mini-Grip and the much newer Rat 2 and have been astonished at how much I like the Rat 2. Not to take anything away from the Spyderco and Benchmade offerings as they're both mature proven designs that many carry but for roughly $25 to 28, the Rat 2 is outstanding with great ergo's, acceptable AUS 8 steel w/seemingly very good HT (have really thumped on mine and very surprised how well it maintained an edge).

One caveat however, two really, if you go with the Rat 2...the black blade and clip is really just paint and will chip easilly if that is a concern, and two, most of the Rat 2 examples I have seen (3) have very late lock-up (60%-80%) which some might be concerned about. I was, and wrote Ontario about this and they are sending me a new Rat 2 to replace mine since they wanted to make sure any isuues with a newly launched knife were adequately addressed. That is excellent customer service in my book!

I've own both. I gifted my mini grip to my best friend because he needed a good robust work knife. I hung on to my Delica because I like my blue handle :D both are excellent knives for their price and are loaded with value. In terms of strength, speed, and versatility, mini grip wins easily, but Delica wins in terms of slicing, weight, and price.

I'll pick the mini grip if you:
1. Need a more robust blade than the Delica.
2. Need fast deployment or closing. Let's face it. Axis locks have some of the fastest closing and openings on the market. To get my Delica to deploy like the vid that theyve shown, I had to lose my pivot to where I had some side to side blade play where as with the mini grip, I can just losen a little and it'll still deploy lightning fast and close lightning fast while maintaining solid lock up in every direction
3. Need a very very strong lock. Axis locks can take stupid amount of punishment. Check out the knife tests on Axis, they hold up stupid well.
4. Prefer thumbstuds

Pick the Delica if you:
1. Need to do a lot of slicing/fine cutting
2. Prefer a lighter knife.
3. Want to save ~$15-20
4. Prefer spyderholes
