Hey guys,

I was poking around the knife shop today and started looking at some folders. One of the ones I liked the look of was the Delica and I was just wondering what you thought of it? How does it hold an edge and general comments like that. Also I just got into knives and was wondering how this would do for a first folder? If the delica isn't a great first folder and you have any suggestions that would be great but I was looking for a relatively small blade.

thanks, peanuts.

a delica was one of my 1st "better" folders, hey its a spyderco so ya know the F&F, steel, etc is gonna be top notch.

if ya want a short blade like that it would be fine imho, that or an endura, which is a little longer, ya might check out the waved version of each FWIW, but either one is a great knife.

thanks for the help, when you say waved version what do you mean? like how does that differ from the normal version? sorry bout this but im new to the whole knife thing

the delica is a super knife, i tend to lean towards my full SE over the PE. try the search function, lots has been said about the delica.

some of them are waved like an emerson, its a hook which catches the edge of your pocket and opens the blade when ya draw it from your pocket, pretty cool idea and works really well with some practice.

go to www.newgraham.com they have some pics, the waved ones are a little higher than the std FWIW, but worth it imho.

my delica is serrated also, but the plain edge is fine too, just depends on what ya like, both are good.

i probably have over 60 production and custom knives and still carry my delica for utility stuff and use it almost daily FWIW.

First off peanuts, there should never be a question mark after a delica. ;)

The only problem with buying a delica is you will not need another folder. I have been carrying a Delica every day (no joke) since 1998. First, I had the older version and now, I have a new one.

The Delica was my first good folder, and one I carried for years. It's a great knife and I can pretty much guarantee you'll enjoy owning one. Mine is a plain edge, with G2 steel. I found it easy to sharpen and hard-ish to make dull. I still own it, but it lives in my briefcase and no longer in my pocket. The handle is grippy as heck, and the integrated clip on mine (first model that came out) works great and is still intact after about ten years.

It opens very slickly and mine currently has a very slight amount of up/down blade play under moderate pressure. We're talking less than 1/64", and this too after about a decade of use and abuse. Yeah, it's a great knife and for the price you're gonna have a hard time beating it for quality. Also, it's light as hell.

You have been favorably impressed with one of the best folders out there. Ten years ago, as a newby, I came to this site, same as you, looking for an EDC folder and was directed to the Delica by enthusiastic reviews from almost everyone. Its reputation has been fully justified; the knife cuts well, holds an edge, resharpens easily, has a reliable lock, tough enough for most jobs, lightweight and flat so carries easily, and cheap enough to replace without much pain if lost. The only hard choice to make is whether to go with a plain or serrated blade. They are each so good that eventually I wound up with both :)

While I don't care for the earlier model Delica/Enduras, the new 4s are great. Any one of the Delica 4s will make a great EDC. I prefer the waved one, but I wish it was available with CE.

In fact, I carry my waved delica in my right front pants pocket, but set-up tip-up & for left-hand carry (The waved section in facing forward). Carried this way, I now have a "sheeple" friendly "P'Kal" knife.

Its amazing how many people here had as their first memorable knife the spyderco delica. As it was mine too. It is an excelent choice and going with the waved version is a must to impress your friends!

Definitely buy a Delica?. I have a Delica? and amongst dozens of much much more expensive knives (like the Sebenza) it does get carried, and I would really have no qualms reverting back to just EDCing it (but of course, I don't, because variety is the spice of life). I really like the Endura? too. The Delica? is just one of those classic knives that are great for hard work. :D

A Delica was my first quality folder. If I could only have one folding knife, it or an Endura would be that knife. But be careful. When you get bit by the Spyderco spider, you will want more and more! The Delica four (the current version) is an awesome knife.
Go to newgraham.com, click on the NGK TV icon, and play the 12-02-07 video to see the Delica compared to a few similar knives.
For the price, the Delica has the others beat, in my opinion.

I love my waved delica and it still gets EDCed with me even after I started to EDC my paramilitary. Honestly you won't regret getting one. Fairly cheap, great steel, and supurb fit and finish.

The Delica was my second folder and my first Spyderco. Mine is old and beat to hell but its still one of my favorites. Mine is the all serrated model.

if you're new to knives and actually like the way it looks, there is absolutely no reason not to get a delica.

i use to collect only benchmades but the popularity of the delica forced me to buy one, despite how ugly i thought it was. spyderco is pretty much all i use now.

The Delica is an absolute workhorse. It's one of those knives that are just special for some reason. I really can't think of a better "first knife" to clip to your pocket and learn what carrying using a knife is all about.

Hi Peanuts,

Thanx for the interest.

The Delica model has 17 years of refinement and evolution. Numerous minor (and some major) improvements have shaped the knife as a reliable cutting tool.

Variety includes VG-10, ZDP-189 or H1 blade steels (Salt 1). Waved or "normal", different handle colors (Black, British Racing Green, Foliage green, yellow). There is even a red handled drone. Plain, serrated or combination edges.

Please pardon the shameless plug :o

I'm wearing a BRG Delica today.

sal

I only like one knife better than my Delica. That knife is the other Delica I have...

Seriously, you won't ever need another knife as long as you have your Delica (though you will WANT to bulk up on Spydies :-) ). Best of luck in your search and know that I highly doubt you will be disappointed if you decide on the Delica (the disappointment will come in not having enough money to buy every model ever made!)
