spyderco delica?

Hey guys,

I was poking around the knife shop today and started looking at some folders. One of the ones I liked the look of was the Delica and I was just wondering what you thought of it? How does it hold an edge and general comments like that. Also I just got into knives and was wondering how this would do for a first folder? If the delica isn't a great first folder and you have any suggestions that would be great but I was looking for a relatively small blade.

thanks, peanuts.

The Delica is a great folder, first or otherwise. Some non-knife people ask me what is a decent priced, hardworking folder. I almost always mention a delica. Get the Delica 4, the best version IMHO. From the abuses I've seen Delicas go through, you'll have one for years. Well worth the cost of one.

I actually have two Delica 4 ZDP-189s, one in blue, and one in green. I love them both.

You never know when you'll need a spare :)

i have one that i recently got in a trade,,,delica PE zdp-189 blue handle...love it,,,my current edc,,,welcome to the forum,,

I love the Delica. My first "real" folder was an Edura. I still have it somewhere but I can't find it. I used to carry a folder at work but eventually stopped doing so as there were always plenty of blades within reach.

You can't go wrong with the Delica! I like the SpyderEdge for cutting boxes and packing tape.

My first folder was a delica and I will always keep one around. they are just to good not to have at least one. These are what I always recommend. Here is what worked best for me for a couple of years get a fully serrated and a plain edge and carry them both that way you always have the right edge for the job. I have owned a delica for like 15 years and one version or another ha always been on me daily. Now its in a custom neck sheath. You can not go wrong with a delica.

Peanuts, if you have any familiarity at all with tools you will find the Victorinox Pioneer or Soldier to be the single most useful knife you can carry. That said, I carry the Vic. Farmer (a Pioneer with a thin saw blade) in my front pocket or on my belt in a nylon sheath, plus an old Spyderco Endura in my back pocket. The Endura fits my hand better than the smaller Delica.

The Delica is superb.:thumbup: I have 2, one with a Spyderedge and on plain edge. The Delica is my EDC along with a Vic. SAK Compact.

Like everyone else said you can't go wrong with the Delica. I have more knives then I need (not as many as I want) The Delica is still one of my favorites. Some knives I wish I would have passed on but not this one.

I've had a few Delicas over the years. It's the one knife model I keep buying. I currently have a Delica 4 and a Waved Delica 4. Tough to beat the combination of quality and price. If you need a street-legal (at least in America) folding knife that can be counted on as a workhorse at your job, or around the home; this is it. It's not a fancy Shelf Queen that you might regret using. And with just a bit of care, it'll last you for years. All of my past Delicas, none of them needed to be replaced because they wore out.

Look at the Native.
Same price, and quality.

Very different blade shape
Might be something you like better.
Also the handle shape is different.

The Delica is most certainly a cornerstone of the knife-world. The epitome of a workhorse and a contemporary classic.

IMHO Delica is no nonsense knife: great piece of steel, good ergos, four-way clip, spyderhole, no luxuries, and $45 only. Only Native is coming close.
