does the spyderco endura 4 have any blade play?
im wondering because im considering getting one but i cant stand blade play.
also i heard someone on youtube talking about it having up and down play.

As with almost any good lockback, a small amount of latch movement is designed in for safety reasons. So, in answer to your question, yes there is a very small amount of movement in the Endura if you really 'reef' on the blade. There is no performance loss on a Spyderco lockback.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Spyderco lockbacks are some of the best in my opinion.

My green FFG Endura has a slight flex (vertical) when I press the blade moderately hard, which pizzez me off, as it's my only folder that does that. Adjusting did nothing for it.

It certainly has. Nothing wrong with that from my point of view. But if you can not stand it - just do not buy any lockbacks. Plenty of other options.

I have never owned a "Lockback" that didn`t have some blade play depending of the amount of force used. I can also say I trust Spyderco lockbacks more than most. I do not think I have ever handled a locking knife that had zero bladeplay under the force of my hands , most liner/frame type locks get tighter the more you wiggle and that gives the impression that it is a tighter lockup but how many people wiggle the crap out of their EDC before use.

Really? I haven't noticed blade play in any of my new lockbacks. They can develop some up/down blade play after use, though. Haven't gotten to that point with my Spydercos yet.

I've two Endura 4's, neither with any trace of blade play. Nada, zilch, no way. My first was beat to hell and back, still no blade play. The newest has yet to see much use, as I'm still fiddling with the edge profile, but is as solid as the proverbial rock.

I have three E4's, PE Wave, SE forest green, USN toxic green PS Wave. None have more than the tiniest bit of play. One thing I do to keep them that way is keep the lock notch in the tang cleaned out. A bit of pocket lint in there will give a noticeable increase in play.

Godo advice -- and thanks!

My spyderco lockbacks all had a wee bit of play out of box. FYI, the only lockback I've ever handled that had none at all is the new generation Recon 1 folder. I mean solid every which way.

If your Spyderco lockback has anything other than a steel or ti handle then it will develop blade play , it is a matter of time. I have never seen a FRN etc that did not have terrible blade play. The Endura will develop blade play with even moderate use.

I avoid them like they have germs.

I am not sure how many I have owned (many). Like any lock back that can be deployed quickly there is some play. Never enough to cause concern, but if you are the type that cannot tolerate the idea that there is some inconsequential movement, then go elsewhere with your purchase.

As others have said, there is generally some vertical movement in the lock, but frequently there is lateral movement that can be adjusted to minimal or zero depending on preference.

The Endura was designed to be practical tool, not a feat of engineering/machining. If you want a good cutting tool in this size and price range...you will have a tough time finding something remarkably better (but opinions vary).

My PE wave has been my go-to carry knife for going on 4 years and it's tight as a drum when locked. The only "wear" is that it just gets smoother and smoother. :D

I've found all lock-backs to have slight vertical "play" when cutting things hard.
If all you do is open letters and cut paper, you won't notice any.:)

All my Endura 4's have blade play against the lock. Some more than others, with my Full Flat Grind models having the least. Several have been back to the factory and returned as they were supposedly "within tolerances". Even so, still bothers me, as lock play is a pet peeve of mine.

Just took mine out of my pocket - its my edc - no play at all in any direction.

Maybe with time it will devlop some but none yet.
