Spyderco Endura vs. Spyderco Police for carry at the camps!

I have been hearing alot lately that the prefered folder in the Special Forces camps (amongst others) is a Spyderco Endura, which I own three variants (great knife by the way)as well as alot of other units, but i think they might be overlooking another great knife, the Police model, it has the same blade steel(except the new ones) virtualy looks the same, but in my opinion has better features, such as, a longer blade, bayonetted(spearpoint tip) hollow grind, etc.,so if they are carrying an Endura over the Military, why is the Police overlooked?
However, I do understand that the slickness of the handel comes into play(in which I belive the handel ergonomics counter) but a smooth handel never seems to be a factor with the Chris Reeve Sebenza( another favorite amongst operators) wich is another heavily coveted knife,so I dont get why the Police isnt prefered over the endura???

The new Police 3 addresses concerns over the slick SS handles, since it is made from G10 handles.

I just purchased a ZDP189 Endura and I'm very happy with it (Except for the obtuse grind which I'm reprofiling). I have no experience with the Police.

maybe its just preference?

why dont all the troops carry autos? why dont they all carry ballisongs? each person has their own criteria when chosing between 2 similar knives and just because some people buy sebenzas doesnt mean that everyone in the unit has to have the same desire to drop 400 on a large sebenza.

personally the only thing that makes me want a spyderco is zdp 189, so either I can go with that or I can question why anyone would buy a spyderco that isnt a zdp 189 blade.

Well the reason most dont use autos is because the are very high matinence, and prone to malfunction due to so many moving parts, however Ive seen Benchmade autos carried, as far as balisongs (aka Butterfly knives), PLEASE!, Im not even going there, and as far as the two being similar...its the differences that makes one (police) more field applicable, and believe me I know because I was a former Green Beret (you bet!),what I was asking was why is one so overlooked, and nothing to do with your cynical responce....:thumbdn:

I was obviously alluding to the fact that both autos and especially butterfly knives are kind of rediculous and impractical. I certainly would never carry an auto in an environment with tons of sand and little else.

also, I told you, its personal preference. you asked what really amounts to a stupid question because you are asking why do people prefer something to something else and the answer is and can only be personal preference. Why do people buy fenders when they could buy a custom strat for a little bit more? Why do peopl buy bmws when they could buy a mercedes for a little bit more?

seriously.

also, I dont really care that you were a green beret. good for you. you think that the police is better in the field, but apparently all the other green berets didnt so sod off.

you may have field experience but you clearly lack perspective.

Ok number 1 you took a simple debate/question, and turned it into some weird personal thing, what is wrong with my post, what is wrong with you? people ask these kind of things daily,is this how you respond to everyones posts??? and as far as your debate about autos, and butterfly knives....you brought that up, and this preferance thing.......I get it!, what I was asking was why arent they more commonly seen?.......not childishly argue with you, And I also certainly dont care if you think its a stupid question or not.....simply put.......if you thoght it was a stupid question......why did you respond to it?........although and more responces from you arent needed

Sorry about this everyone else:)

you come to this forum and ask a question about why OPERATORS use a particular model. well you even said yourself that they are similar, so maybe they just held them both in their hands and had a preference for one? oh wait, thats really all it could be because there are so few objective differences between them.

go talk to your OPERATOR buddies, if you even have any. green berets are usually intelligent, so I am starting to doubt your claim that you were one.

and thats not even going into the issue of why you would ask a forum of edc knife people why military types do what they do.

Wow......you must really like to argue.......and try looking up the term operator before you decide to knock it......and please, like little Thumper said in Bambi..."if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything at all"..............Jesus!

peace guys :D

the endura is a much more known knife than the police, the 4th version has a stronger tip, and there are also the wave ones, and its also a lighter knife, making it easier to carry, the frn versions are grippy as compared to the metal handled police, plus the price, like i said before
and its also something of personal preference :D
cheers guys

if you see OPERATOR in all caps then that means I am making fun of you for being phoney, tacticool, and overall an embaressment to real operators.

people who call themselves operators are just about the same class as people who call themselves otaku.

Rember little Thumper....and what he said?............:jerkit:

I never watched bambi, my parents were absent minded so I was watching much more wholesome movies like alien and t2, so no, I dont remember what little thumper said.

this thread is crap except for the people actually contributing something. Remember, you can't have those minutes back that you waste arguing with people you don't know over the internet.

I also imagine that the price advantage of the Endura has something to do with it. Who wants to lose a $200 knife if they had to stretch to pay for it in the first place?

Little Thumper said "If you dont have anyhting nice to say, dont say anthing at all" ........by the way what the hell does this have to with knives???..........from how you have sounded this whole time, I dont believe your old enough to have one..Oh and to insult my military background ... not that its any of your buisness.........I served with the 5th and 7th Special Forces groups (8yrs) what gives you the right to disrespect someone who defended our country, and was proud to admit he did.......that posted a thread about knives that you ran off the rails into this weird flaming contest,I dont even believe this kind of conduct should be allowed, and I am personaly offended by your remarks, what use is this forum if anything anyone says can be manipulated like you have ........I signed up here to have fun and discuss knives with people who have similar intrests....So like I said......take little thumpers advice......STOP bothering me, and making posting hell

If I were in the field and had a high risk of damaging or losing a knife, I would choose a cheaper model like the Endura to tote. The Military or the Police would be just too high-dollar for me to tote for a folder that can be lost or damaged with other small gear. I would choose something of good quality, but easily replaceable like the Endura.

Yeah that makes sense. You can buy almost 3 Endura knives for the price of one military and it's not like the military is 3 times better than the Endura. Both have similar blade length so they could probably do the same jobs.

i think they might be overlooking another great knife, the Police model, it has the same blade steel(except the new ones) virtualy looks the same, but in my opinion has better features, such as, a longer blade, bayonetted(spearpoint tip) hollow grind, etc.,so if they are carrying an Endura over the Military, why is the Police overlooked?
I don't claim to have any military background, but I have owned more than one Police and Endura knife so here's my 2 cents.

In my opinion the Police is a poorer choice as a general utility knife for exactly the reasons you listed as advantages. The longer blade (with no way to safely choke up on it) makes it less suited to delicate cutting operations. The finer point makes it less durable (potentially at least, I admit I have never broken a Police blade) if using the point to pry or dig with. Finally, the hollow grind edge is (again potentially) less durable the flat grind on the Endura under heavy use.

Plus the Endura is around half the price of the Police model, lighter and has a less slippery handle. :)

I served with the 5th and 7th Special Forces groups (8yrs)

Ill bet anyone on this forum 5 dollars you are faker than pam anderson's breasts.

you were given an answer, take it. someone said price, I said preference, why are you still here? again you are asking EDC people (most of whom have never been in the military) about the preferences of your supposed specops friends.
