Spyderco fan, don't shoot!!

how awesome would a g10/frn byrd crossbill be? dude, those would sell like mad. i think every single one of us would buy one.

I has been asked for many times, and sal has one in the works, as he just stated :)

I'm very excited myself. :D  :)

We have an RIL (Reeve Integral Lock) or "frame-lock" version and several multiblade versions in the works.

I can't wait!

This thread has inspired me to buy a Byrd knife for a friend of mine who wont stop oggling at my Spydies. I have been lending him my Delica 4 when we are out climbing or just doing stuff outdoors over the weekend and he is quickly becoming a knife knut.

I bought him a G10 Cara Cara last night from NGK, I'm sure he will love it. It didn't set me back as much as a Delica or Endura would have, either.

I could see myself keeping a Byrd or two in my EDC rotations. My Caly 3 and Pac Salt have been doing well for me but I like to switch things up every now and then.

I own several spyderco knives, and bought a couple of Byrd knives out of curiousity. To say I was pleasantly surprised would be a major understatement- Certainly I will not stop buying Spyderco's - in fact I bought my first Salsa today- but the Byrd line provides such a neat, inexpensive alternative to those who need/want it. And for those of us who love to collect, it gives us yet another opportunity to buy great knives, albeit at very, very reasonable prices...Thanks Spyderco!

Thanks for taking the time for the lenghty explanation Mr. Glesser. I'm a bit embarrased to realize I've become a bit of a knife snob. I guess when it comes to knives I've really been disappointed in most all Chinese product and definitely all that comes from Pakistan with the exception of a few small pairs of scissors that I use when I tie flies. I've had great luck with Japanese and Taiwanese product though and I'm not completely turned off by Non-US knives. I have to say I appreciate the fact that you are on this end of a 6 year project. I was thinking that you may have just opened up shop in China to put out cheap product with a higher margin. As always though it sounds like QC is of the utmost importance to you and I respect your thoughtful approach to this truly inevitable evolution of your product(just about everyone is moving to overseas production). I work for a large medical device company and we also have alot of overseas manufacturing. Any country is capable of putting our cheap product, but any country is also able to put out quality items with the proper accountability. I also have to say I'm impressed that you're using the same high quality material in the Byrd line that you do in the Spyderco line. If you can take time out of your day to give me such a nice response I can show my continued support of your latest effort through a purchase. I'll pick up one of your Byrd knives and post another thread down the road. Thanks again for the time and best of luck in your latest endeavor! Just promise not to stop making all of the higher end knives that I don't ever want to do without!!

I have been looking into the bird line recently, as they look like amazing knives, considering all my folding experience so far has been with Gerber/Kershaw/3$ gun show knives :p
Now, the only question is, which Byrd to buy?
I like the Robin, but do you think I will feel underknifed? I want a knife that is small enough to carry daily concealed, but big enough to handle most things I throw at it.
Also, I have heard such good things about the G10 handles that I want one of those too.
Any opinions on the Robin?

i have a g10 robin. i admit, its smaller than im used to. however, i really like it because the g10 gives it a really solid feel and i really like the blade shape. the blade shape is almost like a spade/leaf. its pretty useful i would say. its for sure one of my favorite knives, and it cost me the least. it can be easily concealed for sure, and its pretty sharp.

for 20$? Get whatever you want, it's not gonna be a costly decision if you change your mind. I got a crossbill for my friend and that thing is a tank.
