Spyderco fixed my knife but...

Hi Alx21,

I'm not sure what you are seeking by your rant.

If our generic card offended you, you have my apology.

We service hundreds of knives per day with a small staff. There are those that would abuse our customer service in many ways you might not imagine. The card defends against that practice.

As I understand, your problem was solved?

We've been using the card for quite a while. I'll ask the customer service staff to re-evaluate the contents of the card, but I must admit this is our first complaint about the card.

Hope you can let it pass. :)

Sal, you and Spyderco are top knotch. I think the part about the "card" that is disturbing is that its language implies termination of the lifetime warranty.

Granted, i am sure that the majority of warranty replacements/repairs are in result of abuse, and that this card does serve a proper function in those cases. I guess my point is that maybe that card get used just for actual cases of abuse.

Please don't take this as criticism. I would not even write to this thread if it concerned a knife company that was not one of the best all the world.

Looking forward to remaining a Spyderco customer for life.

I'd also be inclined to think of the recent thread in the CRK forum where Mr. Reeve basically called the customer a liar(yes I know how that turned out). In that instance, it turned out the OP ommitted some information. In fairness, for all we know, the same has taken place here. Not trying to point fingers, but definitions of "abuse" vary from person to person and at the end of the day, it's up to the company to decide how to deal with the issue.

i have read the CRK thread and seen the pictures, this really not the same case here! Like i said i had the knife for two months and it wasnt abused at all!
If it makes you feel better i don't mind if Sal wants to post pics!

Let it go. You got a new replacement. IMO this should of been handled with Spyderco first, then if you are not satisfied with response bring it out here.

It seems some just have to chip away at great knife manufacturers reputations.

I don't belive the OP was chipping away at spyderco!! Just telling his story and expressing his concern of the letter....

These forums aren't solely for people to glorify knives and nothing else. I like Spyderco and their knives but these forums are to share information about knives and people's experiences with them amongst other things. If he were to come here and say he was totaly pleased with everything that happened he would be lying. I hate it when someone has a legitimate complaint as part of their story ,talks about it and then fans of that company come and start complaining because someone dared say something that didn't glorify their favorite company. He did nothing even close to wrong by posting that here if he's telling the whole truth.

Now at the same time from being a member of this forum I know Sal is a good, honest, down to earth and wise man and will deal with this issue the right way as he always does and I trust in that. I look at that card as a small mistake that is easily outweighed by all the great things Spyderco has done and will continue to do. On top of bringing incredible knives to us at affordable prices they do things like give thousands of dollars in phone cards to our
troops.

Spyderco is a great company but even great companies make small mistakes here and there.

I spoke with Customer Service. Apparently this was the first of a few UK pen knives that had broken the spring. Since this was a new situation and an unlikely one, CS thought that abuse might be the problem.. They re placed the knife and added the card.

Of interest here to me is a bit different than ruffled feathers. We have 38 very good crew. Crew that I'm proud to have on our team. They are not perfect and occassionaly a problem might crop up. When that happened, the customer would email me and I sorted it. :)
