I was debating between a superleaf and a gayle bradley a couple months ago. I got a superleaf because I didnt know if they were going to remain in production and I thought I could get a gayle bradley any time. Well, the superleaf is still in production and, even if it wasnt, I still wish I would have bought a gb.
The superleaf is nice but not great:
- thick blade stock with short cutting edge (because of choil) is kinda pointless imo. It feels like the handle would come apart prying before even a 3mm blade breaks (probably not true but thats what it feels like).
- the grip is too short unless I put one finger in the choil. For a handle only grip, the front and rear guard thingies on the handle bind against the width of my hand and make using the knife uncomfortable.
- its also very wide in pocket so it makes carrying anything else in your knife pocket a bit of a pain.
Ive come to the conclusion that I can only really get plain handle knives from now on. All the knives with too many "ergonomic" cutouts and protuberances are made for people with smaller hands even if they say they're marketed as big, heavy duty, knives. i.e. the full size griptilian is comfortable for me but the superleaf isnt even though they're almost the exact same length closed.
If you have more normal sized hands than mine - below xl-xxl size gloves - the superleaf is nice even with the drawbacks mentioned above. If you have bigger hands, you'll like the gayle bradley better imo. I dont have one yet but Ive held one and it seemed fine in hand.
