Spyderco for EDC

Avik0 - i hope the spyderco centofante 3 works out for you. It *looks* like a nice folder, but for me the lock would not be secure enough. YMMV.

Not wanting to hi-jack the OP/Topic....

Thx FlaMtnBkr - after i posted i did some looking at the very knife you recommended!!! I was wondering about the AXIS lock and am glad you regard it so highly. The prices on them are going down too - a nice bonus!

My Delica doesn't owe me a thing - i've got 12 decent years out of it and a fair bit of cutting in that time. A *good* knife isn't some safe-queen to look at and get warm fuzzy feelings over. It's a sharp piece of steel to cut stuff with and cutting rope and opening an ocassional can should be no problem (not in pry-bar technique though - there are other ways....).

As far as a Spyderco folder for survival purposes I would have to go with the G-10 handled Police model. Depending on your edge preference you could go with full Spyderedge (serrated) or plain edged.

Any of Spyderco's fixed blade knives are well made and can take demanding work. I own several of Spyderco's folders and fixed blades and I love everyone of them.

Don't forget Spyderco's sharpening equipment as well. It's great for backpacking. Most of the Spyderco sharpening tools are small, compact and ideal for survival type situations.

So you think the Endura 4 at around 3.5 ounces is too heavy to carry everyday? I'm not bashing, I just find that many people think quite the opposite. For it's size, the Endura is one of the lightest knives with liners.
The Cento 3 is a nice knife, my ONLY observation on it is that it only has a liner on one side. If that knife has the same liner on the other side, it would be perfect. IMO, no need to use a single liner as it slightly pushes the blade off center when closed.

I would recommend a Dragonfly, Ladybug, Chicago or Cat.

You know it is funny.
My first good knife, was a Delica 4, at the time I thought I was crazy to spend $50 on a knife.
My wife looked at it and said it was a weapon.

Things changed.... I purchased all kinds of knives, Sebenzas, XM-18s, Ansos, benchmades, kershaws, cases, bucks.......
My wife became used to knives, and even like my Spyderco military with it's 4 inch blade.

Now that I have run through all of those knives looking for the ultimate edc, I put my Delica 4 back in my pocket.

It blew me away as my first good knife, and you know, none of the other knives did much that this wouldn't. It is a nice size, weight, price. With excellent performance.
I just purchased a green flat ground delica, and plan to stick with them as my edc for life! (I HOPE :D )

I really had beginners luck when I picked it up. I was at gander mountain and was about to buy a benchmade, when I remembered reading online that Spyderco knives had loyal, and fanatical fans, and that is why I bought it. And became one myself!

Good luck!

Go to S&R knife store in woodbine mall and you will be able to handle a lot of different Spydercos. They should have a Rookie....try the LeafStorm if they have one....both over your budget, but worth looking at.

I ended up purchasing the delica 4 green and another endura 4 g10 wow!!!! nice blades. A buddy that tagged along loved the knife but fell in love with the emerson wave.

He go the emerson wave endura 4 which is really impressive!
He also grabbed a delica 4 and we decided to get a 3 delica for another friend for his birthday.
