Spyderco for Fishing

I'm looking for a spyderco I can ship to my grandparents' house in florida and just leave there so I can do carry-on only when I travel. They live in one of those sterile golf gated communities with a billion man made lakes that no one fishes in. So all I do down there is fish and it's amazing. An average catfish I pull out of there is 6 lbs, and bass are around 5 or 6 lbs. I even pulled a gar out once. The water is fresh, however rust resistance is always welcome. Anyways, I also need the knife for EDC. I definitely want a spyderco with some kind of serrations. I was looking at the Spyderhawk salt, simply because of it's bamfness. However I need it to EDC as well. An emerson opener would be great too in case I get a real whopper. I like the Delica with the Emerson opener. Any input?

Pacific Salt or the Salt 1, H1 steel is great for fishing/humid environments as it does not rust and holds a great edge for your tasks.

If a rustproof spyderco is your aim, any of the salts will be good choices. To be honest, if you got a waved Delica, as long as you clean it and dry it after fishing I don't forsee rust to be a huge issue with it. You could always keep the blade oiled if you were really worried.

anything in H1 steel will be perfect for that application. Spyderco makes the Salt series as Rev said. That will be your best bet.

Try not to leave it in a tackle box when not in use though.

Spydie Salt 1. I have both SE and PE. Really I use my SE for most of my tasks (I must admit I have owned the SE twice as long) Yellow handle makes it easy to find and not as intimidating to others.

the new catcherman.

Spyderco salt knives. Obviously because they won't rust and since there's no liners in will make cleaning fish and bait guts that much easier.
Anymore info on the new Catcherman?

Holy crap.. that catcherman is AWESOME! I've been using cheapo knives on the boat and just chunking them after a bit, but have really been wanting to step up to an H1 knife.. that catcherman may very well cause me to make that step

Any Spyderco will be rust resistant enough for fishing tasks - especially freshwater fishing tasks. I used to tote an ATS-55 Endura clipped to my pocket while wading chest deep in ponds and lakes going after bass in central Florida. Never had a single problem with the knife.

in fresh h2o the endura in vg10 is great. just rinse it off & wipe with a little rem oil or corrosion x. i have no quarrel with the salt series but opt for the superior edge holding of vg10. some formites take the endura regularly out in the ocean & wipe daily with olive oil.

Awesome! I've been hoping they would re-release the Catcherman!
That was gonna be my recommendation to the OP... try to find one. But, looks like it'll be easier now!

I keep my older Spyderco Renegade in my fishing tackle box. It makes a great bait knife and will fillet a fish in a pinch.

You're on track. A SE Spyderhawk sounds like it'd suit your needs quite well. And there's no reason you can't EDC it, I do. If you want to wave it (a la Emerson), zip tie it. I can guarantee it'll work well. The position and placement of the spyderhole means that the zip tie won't move around. Bonus!
