Spyderco for work

I work on construction sites and use knives for certain things when tools aren't with me or I need to cut materials, or notch or dig. (Low voltage/alarm company).

I normally use a Strider SMF and fixed blade but I'm in the mood to buy a Spyderco.

I was thinking that the stout but slicey Spyderco to fill this role may be a Techno. Any other suggestions?

Edge holding is important. Solid and tough construction. 3-4" blade (ish).

Im thinking the gayle bradley with m4. Only thing i would worry about is sweat from your pocket rusting the blade. Thats what ive been researching to see how quickly that rust may form. I do surveying for the state so im always outside sweating

Used to have a GB1. Only sold it with some other knives for quick cash. Great knife. I do sweat a lot it'd be fine I'd bet. The GB2 looks good. Cheap too.

I had to force a patina on mine to keep it from rusting in my pocket with only minimal sweating(electrician, not fully summer here in Texas) I carry my Para 2 in s35vn more than anything.

I had good luck with the GB1 and it's M4 blade, but I have loved the hap40 Stretch the past few months. It stays sharp and takes an edge well. I'm an electrician, cardboard and carefully strip wire with it

I do have a Super Blue FRN Stretch. I'd love a G10 one. Might be a good idea. Ido like to try HAP40 also. Hmmmm.
Stretch, GB2, Techno

My Sb Stretch has put in many hours of hard work with me. One of my all time favs and probably my most treasured blade

I've had the Gayle bradley, zdp189 frn models and the 110v manix. Your cutting wires ? I chipped a zdp 189 on wires but it had a 10dps edge .

Depending on what you cut I'd say 110v manix or zdp 189 stretch . These steels can be briddle at low angles but I've been fine cutting things considered harsh as long as I keep the factory bevels.

Gayle bradley is anothe choice . I work In a hot weld shop and my GB did rust . It was nothing I couldn't get off myself but I did end up putting a patina on the blade .

My k2 is the best edge holding knife I've ever used . It's huge though

Dragonfly in HAP40, maybe smaller than planned but a nice steel, a nice blade shape and a typical "cuts above it's weight" model.

Not cutting wires unless I forgot my wire cutters in the van. I'll cut Wood, cardboard, plywood, open boxes, cut zip ties, sheet rock, splinters etc.
It won't always be used to do all of those things as I have tools for them but often you won't have all your tools handy and the knife will come into play. Few times a day.

If I have to dig into Wood or notch, I'll use a fixed blade on my hip. Folders look a lot better in a customer's house too. Less scary.

Electrician here as well in NY, I carry my paras everyday for work, s30v dlc digi camo holding up fine with a 15dps so 30 total and I will bring my sprints and s110v if I want to spice it up a bit but I use them for everything when my lineman pliers are not around lol, great for security and data aswell

I know what you mean I work in a weld shop but you'd be surprised just how much stuff I need a knife for . It's mainly robotics and trust me when your up to elbows in a robot with angry Japanese wanting the line running last thing you want to do is come out to get a tool .

Gayle Bradley all the way for you.

GB1 for work IMHO. It has better ergos (at least for me), and it's more solid than the GB2.

If you can find the 1st one at a reasonable price jump on it . I don't have a 2 but it's got thinner liners and some more things , I think the first was just more overbuilt , still I would get the 2 if I couldn't find the one . M4 is a tough steel.

Stretch or GB1. I have and use both, but most days have a Stretch with me in ZDP-189. (However VG10 is fine as well) They both work great for me! Daily cutting tasks usually include wood, shrink wrap, a lot of cardboard and various types of strapping, and pretty much anything else I encounter. No issues with chipping for me, plus ZDP and M4 both have great edge retention! Also really like the SB and HAP40 haha, good luck with your decision! Maybe the Stretch 2 would work for you as well?
