Guys, lets have some opinions on which one of these knives would suit general purpose camp/survival duties. The forester is stainless which is a plus, although I here it is not desireble in a large knife. The Outcast is D2 tool steel, which I am very familier with as I am toolmaker by trade. An excellent tool steel, high chromiem but not a stainless, excellent wear resistance properties, is some what hard to work with in a soft state.I know the Forester is more money, I find it pleasing to the eye, which I realize doesnt make it better, also the large handle would be good for my big mits, LOL.Any one who owns both blades feel free to chime in.

Me again Septer, I also got an Outcast and this one is easy...Forester all the way!!!! The handle on the Outcast is too small and the knife will twist on you, the edge as to be reprofil and this is D2 so if don't have an EdgePro or something similar...good luck!!!!

Another vote for the Forester here. Nice big handle for chopping and much easier to sharpen than D2.

I too own both knives and as for which I prefer, it depends on my needs -or mood. For example, when I go on my week long excursions into our beautiful Rocky Mountains I chose the Outkast for it's weight and unsurpassed ability to hold it's edge. The combination of me convexing the edge and satin finishing the blade has really helped the chopping ability of this knife. I can go the whole week of chopping and I will not lose the edge, at all. It just will not wear down, absolutely phenomenal wear resistance. That translated for me, no need to sharpen in the field -although it isn't an issue for another steel type if I had to in comparison to the Outkast IMO.

When I do my regular camping I LOVE the my Forester (or I take my Fehrman Extreme Judgment, as of recent) I love the looks of the Forester, it's my favorite after the Fehrman. Love the ergonomics, I keep it at a thinner profile and it chops very very well. The handle for long chopping chores is for ME more forgiving than the Outkast -Although I do have pretty tough hands, the pattern of the Outkast' handle can be a bit...rough over long tasks. I do bring a set of gloves now which has countered that issue.

You know I'd pick up the Forester simply because it's a beautiful capable chopper that is normally near 400 bucks but is now going for 130 bucks. Just on that fact alone haha. But I would not pass up the Outkast if you need a great lighter chopper with ridiculous edge holding ability.

So in my opinion get both in the end, after that pick up the Fehrman, then a FFFBM, then a SW Chopweiler, then, then, then.... hahaha.

Thanks guys for the fast replys, greatly appreciated. It is leaning toward the Forester for now, simply because price and availability may be in limited supply. The Outcast looks like a great knife,it looks like there will be lots available in the near future. That makes sence to me.

Yeah that's my only reason I told you to get the Forester, just because it's selling like hotcakes now. In fact I just ordered another one last night for this reason. But it in no way chops better or longer than the latter, if that is why you chose it.

If your looking for the best chopper then don't go with neighter one of them...get a BK-9 or Browning C/B or RD-9 and the list goes on and on. There's a lot of better choppers out there and less expensive....
