Spyderco = Glock

If had to compare a knife company to a gun company, it would be Spyderco to Glock.

Both engineer and produce extreme quality.
Both are simple design.
Both have been tested to extremes.
Both have great customer service.
Both are of great value.
Both offer a large varity of products.
Both are affordable.
Both use high quality parts.
Both are well respected worldwide.
Both are widely used by Law Enforcement / Millatary.
Both last a long, long time.
Both make the best use of synthetics - FRN / Polymer.

One great difference is the ownership. Sal is very accessable where as Gaston Glock may as well be OZ.

One difference immediately comes to mind. I'm extremely fond of Spydercos, but I sure dislike Glocks. ;)

Hmmmmm. So is a Buck 110 a 1911? :-)
I wonder what my BM 710 is?

I can see the relationship though. Spyderco changed the knife
industry by providing light weight high quality knives
and Glock did the same for guns.

So what would Busse be, then? Barrett?

Both are small companies that make extreme, heavy duty and expensive products that have a rabid following. Both companies have brilliant business models and marketing strategies. Both companies make products that are probably much more than the average person even comes close to needing.

Buck 110=1911...
Yep. Both are classics, both are traditionally old fashion, both are a little on the heavy side, and both get the job done.

BM 710=HK USP...
Both are great designs, both offer excellent performance, and both are overpriced! :D

I dunno I dont see too many gangs carrying Enduras...
Plenty of the "gang banger" types carry Spydercos.
The same was true of the Buck 110 in its heyday...it was carried by cops and criminals alike.

I really love my Spydies but I don't own any Glocks so I can't really agree or disagree. All those things you said are definately true about Spyderco's.

It's a disservice to Spyderco to compare them to Glock.

Glock is a one trick pony. Glock nearly sold out gun owners along with S&W. Glock plays footsie with the ATF and ballistic fingerprinting. Glocks' ergonomics suck. Glock "innovation" is the ripping off of design elements from elsewhere and synthesizing a product for the lowest common denominator.

Spyderco has legendary customer service; Glock has recalls disguised as "upgrades," kind of like Microsoft.

Glock sucks and Spyderco doesn't.

I wouldn't call a Glock simplistic in design; there are a lot of small moving parts IIRC. But I see your point and agree!

Spydercos realy are the glock of knives. They popularised the polymer, black look, they come in the same two colors, black and od green, and they feature the same basic model in a variety of sizes. Their also both one of, if not the most, popular companies in their respective market niche. And, of course, I'd easilly trust my life to both companies.
