As a knife buyer (and buyer of anything) I really like to find companies that I like to support with my wallet. Companies that I believe deserve my money. Spyderco really hasn't been one of those companies. I just got the Spyder Byte Email and reading their history and ties to Golden CO. really makes me want to purchase more Spydercos.

The Manix 2 LW may be the first. We shall see...

Manix 2 lw is a great knife and is my personal best Value State made folder in the collection. Great choice.

I really didn't give Spyderco much of a look either. I was too into the overbuilt folders.

My tastes changed last November . ;)

I tend to stick with Golden's, but a Police might be my next one.

(Fixed pic for you.)

I agree, though. There's something about Spyderco as a company that's as compelling as their products. I stumbled into Spydies by route of the Vallotton's good looks. I stayed for the company's reputation.

Love Golden made knives! Seeing that "Golden CO. USA Earth" stamp on the knife makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside..... Anyway the Native is my favorite golden made model.

I am one who until about 2 months ago would have called myself a "benchmade guy" in terms of what knives I buy and enjoy most.
I always loved my Spyderco P.M. 2 but it was after purchasing the Burch Chubby that my interest in Spyders started to grow. Now after buying a Rubicon and a Techno I am totally hooked. I bought a Sage 2 yesterday and I will be adding a Southard very soon. The quality has been excellent on all of these knives. The ergonomics stand out as exceptional as well. I'm becoming a big Spyder fan for sure.
My only disappointment is that I personally would prefer it if the Colorado, USA plant made the better knives. They make great knives in Co... but, the quality of the Spyders coming from the Taichung plant is indisputably better. Small complaint though...I still love the great knives they are making.

Here's my latest...

Less than three months ago I had zero Spyderco knives, today I have 11.... mostly Taichung, Taiwan models.

I steered away from the overseas assembled examples until I got my first one, now I'm hooked, big time.

I agree with the Taichung love. I'm always happy to learn that a particular model I'm eyeing is a Taichung. Benchmark of highest quality.

The Chap was my first Spyderco and is likely still my favorite.

Fabulous little slicer, great fit and finish (other than the edges of the back lock being slightly "sharp", but I've become used to it).

Just curious why you feel Spyderco hasn't deserved your money?

Since I live in Golden, Colorado I am biased towards my hometown company. I am close enough that I can walk over to the factory. When I stopped by last week they told me they are closing the factory store for a week due to construction. They are significantly enlarging the size of the factory space (like doubling the size). This is so they can manufacture more knives locally and to increase production to meet demand. Everyone who works at the factory are great people and love the work they do.

Thanks,
Richard

:thumbup:it would be cool if they brought home some of the off shore manufactured models. Imagine a golden made Delica or dragonfly in s30v, or some other crucible or carpenter steel.

Welcome aboard Richard! Perhaps you can give us some occasional intel updates on the "expansion". We've been hearing about this for sooo long with no real concrete (pun intended) description. Foundation poured? Shell up? Trucks of machinery rolling in? What's going on over there? Thanks.

I just ordered a Double Bevel, having been so enamored by that blade and handle design ever since I re-discovered Spyderco's. A DB with a S30V blade, made in Golden....work of art.

I have found great value in the Golden Colorado Earth Spyderco models I have purchased over the years.I am especially fond of the Sprints.......
