Spyderco & Golden Colorado

I love my sprint run PM 2 too!

I have a Golden knife, the Orange Dodo.
The 11 others are Taichung Spyders. Actually, I have two Golden models, I also have the BBS Millie model too.
I do plan on more Golden Spyders though.
Those Taichung Spyders are just on another level.....

I have the Native 5 and Manix 2. These both compare well to my Seki City and Taichung knives; but I do agree that the Taichung knives are EXCELLENT.

But regardless of where the knife is made - isn't all of the S30 and S35 steel made in the US??

I'm actually looking at the Sage or Chaparel for office use.

I got the Chaparral 1 about 10 days ago, and I think you'd be pleased. Amazing quality. The sage was a little too big and thick for me. Chaparral might be "the one" for me. It's the only lockback that I can open and close with one hand as easily as a liner lock. The ergos are perfect for me, and THIN.

I've always had a tender place in my heart for the Golden, Colorado USA Earth made Spyders. Especially a few models like the Chinook III, Original Manix, Swick, and even going back to the original Renegade and Blackhawk models.

There is something really distinct about all the models whether they be made Golden USA, Seki Japan, Taiwan>> I don't own any of the Byrd models because I just love the Real McCoy Spyders.

I probably have more love for the Golden USA Spyders even though most of the ones I use on a daily basis are the Seki Japan or just plain Japan made Spyders.

But models like the Dodo that were made in Golden really stand out over most of the other models. I just wish they would eventually make a premium Hawkbill model in Golden USA.

I like my Golden's but Taichung executes much better in my opinion. The fit and finish as well as the edge are much better out of box on my Taichung knife

Never owned a Taichung knife but seki city and Colorado ones have alwYs been good to me!!!

Had more of the Seki made Spyders, but the PM classic is an oft carried and much treasured member of my family.
Had no experience with the Taichung models, yet.
For some reason, we don't see many of those in my neck of the woods??

Just picked up another Taichung model and I'm once again blown away by the quality. Spyderco is becoming my hands-down favorite!

As a knife buyer (and buyer of anything) I really like to find companies that I like to support with my wallet. Companies that I believe deserve my money. Spyderco really hasn't been one of those companies. I just got the Spyder Byte Email and reading their history and ties to Golden CO. really makes me want to purchase more Spydercos.

The Manix 2 LW may be the first. We shall see...

Spyderco does quite a lot for others:

They've always been one of those companies. I'm sure there is even more I'm forgetting.

I didn't really used to care about Spyderco knives. But then I've got Dragonfly2. Well let me tell you my mind has been changed.

And I'm not done yet.

From my experience with ANY Spyderco, all I have had (yet) is the Sage 1 from Taichung. The quality on this really does not match the price point... Lockup is 100%, fit and finish is 110%, CPM S30V supersteel is 140%, and being able to get one for only 130$ new is 200%. I like supporting american craftsmen, but the Taichung factory really has it going on.

RevDevil, that's an awesome little list of some incredible good doing.

You probably shouldn't say your "Lockup is 100%", because that could be easily misunderstood. Threw me off for a second there until I saw where you were going with it. :D

I've had my Slysz Bowie for a week now.....it easily surpassed all my other Taichung Spydies in fit/finish/quality feel, etc.

Closest I've ever had to a full custom knife, just incredible.

I think Spyderco may be the most knife for your money in just about all their line up. Endura's, Delica's, Stretch, Tenacious line and most of all the paramilitary 2's for 119 bucks. I would really like to see Golden CO made Delica's and Endura's with G10 and S30V for the 99 to 120 dollar range.
