Spyderco H1

Wtf is that suppose to be??

A modern take on a sailor's knife???

Sheep's foot so you don't accidentally stab stuff on a pitching deck. Fully serrated for cutting line, rope, webbing, cloth, etc... H1 so you don't have to worry about rust.

Curious, why can H-1 not be flat ground?

EDIT: Does it have something to do with the fact that it is cold rolled without a heat treat?

It can be flat ground, but it isn't cost effective in the quantities that spyderco manufactures. I believe it has to do with H1 being work hardened and having to grind both sides at the same time to prevent warping. I know Tom Krein reground some H1 blades for some around here. It can be done, it is just cost prohibitive.

Thanks, that makes sense.

There are plenty of stainless steels with excellent corrosion resistance. The Victorinox chefs knife is one inexpensive example.

There are plenty of other brand choices, but that's not the point....this is a discussion of H1 in a Spyderco sub-forum, with a variety of opinions and suggestions, as well as a wish list in the mix.
