Ever since I received my Southard flipper, it has became my favorite knife. Because I knew without a shadow of a doubt that it's my favorite folder, I started to customize it. I have anodized the titanium slab and dyed the G10. Bye Bye warranty right? Well yeah, I figured a knife this well built wouldn't need it until I screwed it up. Quite literally screwed it up. I have stripped a frame screw, bent one of the cupped washers, and warped one of the stainless pillars while trying to attempting to remove the strip screw. After realizing how much I have screwed up, I emailed Spyderco about it and they told me to send it in anyway with $25. If they can fix it they will take the $25 dollars as service fees and shipping fees, but if they can't they'll retire it and tell gift me with a discount certificate for a replace knife. The Southard being my favorite knife, $25 is nothing if it means getting it back to it's former glory. I was worried about losing my favorite knife being that it's unfixable. Southard being a Taiwan made knife, I know that there wouldn't be any replacement parts. I made a note that if it couldn't be fixed please sent it back to me because it has a lot of sentimental value. I was expecting an email notifying me that nothing could be done.... but....

Three weeks later, in a nice UPS box from Golden, Colorado, my Southard is back and she's like new. They replaced the bad washer with a new one, gave me a new set of ball bearings, and of course sharpen the blade. The flipper was just like the first day I had received my Southard.

I wish the communication was a little better, but the results were worthwhile. Great job Spyderco. I'm very pleased and thank you very much.

I just had a great experience with their warranty services as well, spyderco are top notch people!!

After hearing about some of the bad customer service experiences with some of the members, I figured posts like these are necessary. Especially for the Taiwanese Spydercos.
