Spyderco Hawkbill Sprint Run: Which one?

With Spyderco truly being the "King Of Hawkbill" blades I can't think of a better Sprint Run to consider at this time especially with all of the Hawkbills we've been chatting about in the past month or so. Many of you guys here at BF love the SPYDERHAWK as I do also. Now there is a bit of disparity about Plain Edge versus Spyderedge but I've got a cure for that>> which ever Sprint Run they decide to do just do both edge types. Because there is a growing number of Hawkbill users that are leaning toward plain edges.

Myself I used Spyderedged Hawkbills probably 90% of the time I use one. I just find that Spyderedges and pull cutting work well together. Which brings up a model that I always thought never got a chance to shine in the main line up because they never offered it in Spyderedge. I'm speaking of the SUPERHAWK model>> and I've talked to several people in the past few months that agree with me on that one. But I have other Hawkbills I would love to see in a Sprint Run and one I really want to see very bad would be for them to do another G-10 Harpy.

Now I'll also consider some of the Reverse S models like the Dodo, Lil Matriarch and the Matriarch to be considered as well. I would love to see upgrades in handle material like maybe a Sprint Run of the Spyderhawk with a G-10 handle. As well as I would also like to see an upgrade in blade steels for certain models. OK which Sprint Run Hawkbill models would you all like to see.

Superhawk in HAP40!

That's a very interesting suggestion!! But I would want it in Spyderedge and plain edge both this time around. I always thought that the Superhawk model was doomed the first go-around because they never offered it in Spyderedge. But SE & PE in HAP 40 is a very cool idea!

I'm wondering too if a G-10 Harpy would also go well with HAP 40?

I have HAP40 in small knives like the Meerkat/Caly 3 and in an 8" chef knife, so I'm going to give a thumbs up te the Harpy

I'm kind of embarrassed to say that I've yet to own anything with HAP 40 especially being the "steel snob" that I've become . But from 3 friends of mine who I talk to a lot all tell me that it's really nice blade steel. Therefore I think it would be apropos for a Sprint Run Hawkbill to have it. Because most of the Hawkbills come from Japan makers anyway so that would be possibly easy to accomplish and make a great user blade as well.

I've also wondered if HAP 40 wouldn't be good for a Reverse S blade like the Lil Matriarch?

s90v Carbon Fiber Harpy in plain edge...touch of old and touch of new!

This is actually a very timely suggestion especially when over at the other forum we've been talking about USA made fixed blades & Hawkbills both. A GOLDEN CO USA Earth made G-10 Harpy with S90V blade steel??? BRING IT ON!! But only if we can get it in SE & PE both.

I'd want something more out of the box.

G-10 Byrd Crossbill in CTS-XHP both PE and SE

I got to admit that the Byrd Crossbill had a design that I really liked for a Hawkbill. But for a lot of personal reasons I've never owned a Byrd knife. But if I did cave in and do it the Crossbill would be one that I probably would go ahead and buy.

The SUPERHAWK had a radii/angle similar to the Crossbill but they never made it in Spyderedge the first go-around. I would love to see that changed if they ever do a Sprint Run.

But I'm still waving a big flag for the G-10 Harpy>> that just has to get done at some point.

Harpy plain edge!

I like the PE Harpy. They were available for a long time through the Japan knifemaker G-Sakai on their website. Sometimes they are available through SFO but not often. They never made many of them. On all the Sprint Runs I lobby for I always ask that they do a batch in SE and PE both.

One of the very best they ever made was the Carbon Fiber Harpy of 2005>> they made those available in SE & PE. You don't see those come up hardly at all anymore. I wish I hadn't sold the ones I had.

If they do a batch of the G-10 Harpy I do hope they do them in SE & PE both. The old ATS-55 G-10 Harpy ( the original G-10 model) was not done in PE for some strange reason.

This would not be a sprint run (of an existing model), so I probably should not contaminate your thread, but how bout an Enuff with a hawkbill blade (se of course) :)

Not sure how I would like it but I must admit that it is an interesting concept. I've lobbied for a fixed blade Hawkbill for quite a few years now and it would seem like Spyderco would at least consider the idea with all the success of all the other great fixed blades in their line up.

So far the Spyderhawk & G-10 Harpy are kind of leading the way>> but I still would like to see a Spyderedged SUPERHAWK.

G10 Spyderhawk gets my vote

Well PEACENT that makes two of us who would just love a G-10 handled SPYDERHAWK  And I'm also wanting a G-10 Harpy as well. Wouldn't that make one colossal gift set if Spyderco would make both a G-10 Spyderhawk and G-10 Harpy and sell them as a Christmas gift set?

Just from a functional aspect a G-10 Spyderhawk and/or Harpy would truly be very good news to many people here and at Spyderville too.

I'd "vote" spyerhawk, but frn to keep it more affordable (& plenty strong enough).

Well it looks like the Spyderhawk model is going to win this one but I still maintain that if any of you got to test drive the original G-10 Harpy you all would immediately fall in love with it as I did a few years back. I EDCed mine for about 8 years before it got stolen from me. That was one of the most heartbreaking losses I ever had with a knife. But I'm not giving up because I'm sure there are dozens of Spyderheads that would really welcome the return of the G-10 Harpy.

And a G-10 Spyderhawk just keeps sounding better and better all the time. They are both excellent hard use knives and a G-10 handle would add a lot of rigidity.

I have owned the Spyderhawk and Superhawk, the former being my favorite despite the fact I let it go and kept the Superhawk.

strong enough for sure, but I'm open to trying out new materials if price doesn't skyrocket. G10 seems very nice for the application too

I keep hearing you praise the G10 Harpy and given your long experience with Spyderco I bet you can't be wrong asking for a G10 handle Hawkbill, it seems worth a try to me. If only i got a Harpy...but this seems like the perfect opportunity for an "updated" Spyderhawk with new materials and some tweaks in the original design

I have owned the Spyderhawk and Superhawk, the former being my favorite despite the fact I let it go and kept the Superhawk.

reason(s) for that, may I ask?

I wish I could get my hands in a Spyderhawk... too bad they are discontinued... I learn't too late about them. But Spyderedge please... I want it solely for rope work!

If anyone reads this and owns one and is willing to sell... let me know!!
