Spyderco Hawkbill Sprint Run: Which one?

I wish I could get my hands in a Spyderhawk... too bad they are discontinued... I learn't too late about them. But Spyderedge please... I want it solely for rope work!

If anyone reads this and owns one and is willing to sell... let me know!!

Well take heart because I've got it from a very reliable source that a Sprint Run Spyderhawk is all but a done deal. I don't know what timeline we're looking at but I'm 99% confident that we will see a new Spyderhawk within the next 6 months and maybe sooner.

I don't have the particular specs on what materials for the handle or blade steel but I do think from what I've gathered it will be in the Salt Series and maybe even be done with LC200N.

What still baffles me is that just a little over a year ago a well known person from Spyderco gave us some encouragement that a G-10 Harpy might just be possible. I'm not going to let up on the demand and I'm hoping that enough people get on the bandwagon to get that project done as well.

I still say that a G-10 Harpy and G-10 Spyderhawk would make a colossal gift set for the upcoming holidays. It's something Spyderco should take a hard look at IMO.

JD Spydo.... BEST NEWS EVER!!! I will start saving some money... I just hope the price tag is not too big.

I knew someone who might be in the market for the Spyderhawk and I needed cash. I also see more of these on the secondary market too so i suspected i could reaquire one easier.

Check out the "H-1 Spyderhawk" thread over at the other Forum and you'll see that Spyderco definitely has plans on a Spyderhawk Sprint Run. From what I understand it won't be long from now. I just hope that they do it in SE & PE both because I would love another plain edged Spyderhawk to go with the VG-10 blue PE unit I have already.

Just be patient I'm sure you'll get your wish soon. I just wish we could also get them to do a G-10 Harpy as well. If I could get both those aforementioned Sprint runs my whole year would be almost complete.

I have a G10 Harpy.

I have a G10 Harpy.

You are among the priviledged few. Because those G-10 Harpy models are truly becoming a rare and very coveted. Which makes a big case for another big SPRINT RUN. I'm talking a bare minimum of 3000 units in both SE & PE.

Of about 8 Spyderco knives I've either lost or got stolen in the past 20 years the G-10 Harpy is one I grieve about the most. Yeah mine got stolen and I heard that the thief sold it for a pack of cigarettes >> And that really compounded my anger too.

It is a very cool knife but I've only carried it a couple times and have never used it.

I guess it's accurate to say that G-10 is slowly becoming about my favorite "hard use" handle material. It works well when wet and it is also very dependable in cold and harsh environments. I do like the grippy properties of Titanium and I do hope that Spyderco does more with Titanium handles in the future. But a G-10 handle particularly on a Hawkbill like the Harpy just gives me a lot of confidence and it is easy to maintain.

G-10 is a bit lighter than Micarta and stainless but it's extremely tough. FRN is tough but the grip factor just doesn't give me the confidence that G-10 does. I have several FRN Spyders but G-10 handled units are what I seem to use the most.

So whichever Sprint Run Hawkbill we can get I do hope more than anything it will have a G-10 handle. The Harpy would be an excellent place to start.

I carry G10 handled knives almost exclusively. The only reason I don't carry the harpy more is the tip down orientation. It's actually the only tip down knife I own.

I've been really thinking about your comment concerning "tip-up versus tip-down" carry and I do find it interesting. Actually it's never been an issue for me per se but I'm always looking to improved on things. I really don't see any reason if they do a Sprint Run of the G-10 Harpy it might just be to their benefit to configurate the handle to where they could do it either way i.e. Tip-up or Tip Down.

I do hope that they do a rather thick G-10 handle because I find that Hawkbills with bulk are easier to implement.
