I need help. I bought a Tenacious because I like G10 and I like a liner lock. I know I'm weird but I like to be able to open and close a knife with one hand while I'm holding on to something(that I want to cut!)
The Tenacious just doesn't semm to hold an edge long enough for me.
I like Spyderco. Which knife is G10, liner lock and not a big ol honking knife like the mini or reg. Manix or the Military line?

The only G-10 linerlock other than the Tenacious is the Captain. The Sage is linerlock and smaller, but it is carbon fiber. All the others are either not G-10, discontinued or both.

The Military starts large, but it shrinks after you carry it a while. In a couple of weeks, it becomes a normal size and other knives are just tiny. The light weight and relatively narrow closed width make it carry like a much smaller knife.

Thanks, yablanowitz. I had a BG42 Mili but it was too big. I carried ( and still have) a mini Sere 2000, but it is just not as robust as I'd like. The Tenacious is just a little too big. The ironic part about the Tenacious is that I intially liked it so much that I instantly ordered a spare! So I still have one new in the box. Thanks anyway.

Well, you have a Gold membership, and from what I've seen, the Tenacious is selling like hotcakes. It shouldn't be too hard to unload. ;)

Have you re-sharpened it? It almost sounds like you have a bit of a wire edge.

Hi!

In some tests, the 8Cr13MoV steel is actually HARDER than S30V (61 vs. 58/60 HRC): see here (scroll down). So there is a chance that a good sharpening (with removing the weakened metal by doing a few passes right into the stone) and getting rid of any burr to prevent a wire edge could perhaps change your mind about the steel's performance (if you didn't do all that already, that is :D)

I like the Tenacious very much, but if it is too big, then the Sage is for you. No G-10, but the handles should be grippy enough. Alternatively, you could try to get used to close a backlock one-handed (it is not that difficult: even I can do that! :o) and get a Caly3... or even an UKPK. No lock at all, but still safe in most cutting chores.

Go with a UKPK until the day Spyderco makes a framelock Native in G10.

The 8Cr13MoV may be harder, but it doesn't seem to have as much abrasion resistence as S30V. I have to agree with Sal's finding that 8Cr13MoV is happier with a 40 degree microbevel than it is run at a straight 30 degrees included. It is good steel, on a par with AUS8, but for rough use it doesn't hold an edge all that well. But then, I'm the guy who has to sharpen his S90V Military almost daily. ;)

Seeing as you find the Tenacious a bit big, and if you can live with CF instead of G-10, the new Sage might fill the bill.

I was almost certain that the Tenacious my friend bought came with a wire edge. No matter -- after he put some shiny flat spots on the blade I sharpened it, so any wire edge that was there is now gone. You might want to check that first.

To all that suggested that I might have a wire edge, my dad showed me how to sharpen a knife on a wet rock (thats what he called them) when I was 14 years old. He would bring a bunch of knives home from his buddies at work and sharpen them. One time he said, "Son, it's time you learned how to sharpen a knife." I learned about a wire edge very early on in life. That was about 40 years ago. These days I do use a Sharpmaker sometimes. As in the case of this time with the Tenacious. yablanowitz, I am guilty of using my diamond sticks at the 30 degree angle. When I get some time I'll go to the 40 degree angle.
To all who turned me on to the Sage, that little puppy is on my short list!

Anything posted by Cliff Stamp doesn't hold a lot of weight with me.

You know guys, for 35-40 bucks the Tenacious is one hell-of-a-bargain. I guess I need the next level. That Sage is looking real good!

As one whose carryed his Sage EDC for the last week - it's GREAT! :D:thumbup:

Yep, mine got here today, and I must say I'm impressed. The size is perfect for me, the carbon fiber is textured enough to give good purchase without grinding your skin off, the S30V blade came razor sharp, and the attention to detail is outstanding. When this one comes out with the mid-back lock it is going to be my long-awaited Micro-Manix.

I know the blade on the Captain is weird lookin - but if you use one for literally a couple of days -it'll be hard to give up.Hands down has the most robust tip of anything in the Spyderco line - the blade geometry really does what the designer was shootin for - a great daily use utility knife - it's a worker. The only improvement I'd make to it would be to remove the clip and carry it in a Vess sheath.
This thing works!

I had to do a search on the Captain to see what it looks like...thats one wierd looking blade. I guess I'm more of a conventional blade kind-of-guy. Heck, I don't even like serrated blades!
I've got 2 Tenacious knives and no Sage?
