Spyderco high end knives?

Then there's my view on things. I'm more into convincing people to buy American then the other way around.

The only problem is when you show them to friends and coworkers and they laugh at you. But who cares what they think. It's a great knife. (I own several Taiwanees knives).

Exactly. It's very tough to argue when there's so many US-made knives at the same (or lower) price point. While the Taiwanese knives may be better, the casual observer may not recognize the better qualities of one knife vs another.

I doubt that would be much of an issue as MOST people buy garbage from what I have seen over the years... Whatever they can pick up for cheap at the big box stores, flea markets etc....

They can't see past the Country of origin to recognize quality. There was a time when people laughed off Toyotas and Hyundai cars, nowadays not so much.;)

This happens to you? Hmm, leaves a lot to be desired as far as friends are concerned (IMO).

Doesn't happen to me either....

It's more like they don't say anything, notice etc because they all know I always have some sort of knife on me...

If they do say anything it more like they like it and ask how much it is and were they can buy one....

But then I don't carry junk......

I still do laugh at them honestly (except for a select few Toyota models over the years)...

I think Joti Development makes some nice knives for Spyderco in Taiwan but they are still over priced for what you get compared to other options. Just my opinion... I prefer to stick with the Golden Colorado models think you get a lot of bang for your buck.

All made in Taiwan. But the Native 5 Fluted Titanium is higher end and made in Golden CO.
As well as Ti Fluted Military. Both knives are excellent.
Every serious Spydie fan I know will tell you that in some ways, Spyderco's Taichung knives surpass their Golden, CO knives in fit and finish. Is what it is.
I strongly disagree with this.
I owned at least five Taichung made knives and consider that F&F is excellent. I also owned at least 3-4 dozens of Golden made knives and cannot recall any issues with them either. Taichung made knives are certainly look dressier than knives made in Golden, but this is due to the choice of scale materials rather than F&F: polished g10 and nicely finished CF from Taichung vs. Peel-ply g10 and CF from Golden. I strongly believe that, if Spyderco would decide to make the same model on both plants, both would show exceptional quality level with Golden at least the same as Taichung.

This. I showed a coworker my Sage 1 and he asked how much I paid for it, I said $120 ( purchased 4 years ago ).

He laughed, pointed to Taiwan, pulled out his Gerber Ultralight and said "Made in USA, $10, you got ripped off".

lol

It is hard to explain to people who don't care about materials and worksmanship.

My two favorite knives area a Sebenza and my Domino. It's a very well put together piece.

I wouldn't pay much attention to what people say if they are not knife enthusiasts, Im sure most of them don't even know where Taiwan is :D .
As long as you are satisfied with your choice ,design and blade steel, that's all that matters.

Is it just me or do some folks only know enough to judge a knife solely based on the U.S.A. stamped in the blade?

Ding ding ding ding ding! We have a winner!

My first Taiwanese knife, southard, should be arriving very shortly. I haven't bought a foreign made blade since I picked up a first production S&W Swat back in the 90's as a young mall ninja.
