Does this knife exist? I swear I've heard the name somewhere. I know it's not a curent knife, is it an old one?

Hi Callahwj. The Impala is a new prototype that we showed at the Blade Show in Atlanta. It is 4" blade folding hunting knife. there are two versions, one with a gut hook and one without a gut hook. The handles are G10 with a nested Walker linerlock and a blade/handle choil. Steel will be VG-10. the original design was from Ed Scott, a South African custom knifemaker that works in Kruger Natl Park culling Impala. That original design was modified by the Spyderco design team.

It was a very nice knife. Seems to be a versatile design. I wonder what time frame we are looking at? Is this going to be a replacement for the Wegner? It seems to fill the niche that the Wegner does, although I don't believe the Wegner can ever truly be replaced.

That was one of my favorite prototypes, especially the no hook model. What I really liked was the way the clip was mounted so that it was almost inlayed. The surface of the clip where the screws go in was flush with the surface of the G10. There was a square of equal depth cut into the G10 where the curved part of the clip contacts the handle, making it more secure in the pocket. The whole package was very slick.

I also preferred the one without the gut hook. I am looking forward to this model hitting the streets.

Am curious about this "almost inlayed" clip. Does it resemble the clips on the Outdoor Edge Magna and Impulse? I'd read about that a long time before getting my Impulse. While it precludes true ambidexterity, I think it is really cool. The clip flat doesn't have any impact on your grip, whichever hand you hold the knife with. I posted on the OE forum some time ago my surprise that nobody has licensed that clip arrangement from OE.

You can see the inlayed clip from this pic. I will get an Impala as soon as the non-guthook version is available.

Does anyone know what diameter the opening hole is on it?

Both versions of the Impala are now listed as available from the factory store on Spyderco's website.
