spyderco jani song

I believe Jayinhk bought the Janisong from a local Taiwan knife store,
which not only is the official dealer of Spyderco in Taiwan,
but the Glesser family just visited them a couple weeks before.

I was told that the Glesser family were here to talk about letting them handling the Janisong distribution,
which means the whole world outside of US has to get Janisong through this company.
This make perfect sense, after all it is manufactured in Taiwan.

I have seen the Janisong in person a week ago,
but I have no experiences with Balisongs and such,
so I never handled it.

Whoa whoa whoa, wait wait, hold on...

That appears to be the first bolt on Spyderco factory deep carry clip and it is ILLEGAL to get into the US!?! Dafuq.:grumpy:

And designed by Michael Janich, but he cannot have one. Except when travelling abroad?

Thanks for the video jay.
That is what I got from the video too! Never been into Balisongs, but if that clip is well received, I would love to see them on many Spydies.

Can anyone confirm that the hole spacing is the same as the PM2, Stretch, etc hour glass clip?

I wish I would've thought to go visit some blade stores when I spent some time in Taiwan a few years ago...

Hole spacing appears to be wider than standard... but, hopefully it is a glimpse into what may come in the future on other models. :)

And yeah, the Jani-song definitely looks like a beautifully functioning device!

Quiff is right on. The case behind Sal Glesser is the Spyderco case and the JaniSong was on display right behind him!

I can see a Tatanka and Schempp Bowie there over the young gentleman's shoulder. :D

Did they have any older SpyderClassics there, or only current catalog run stuff?

I don't understand why Spyderco won't release this knife in the US.

Check into their lawsuit history and nearly a half-mil reasons might tell you why. :(

Reread Zeros post:

Spyderco got prosecuted by Customs (lawyer fees), fined, AND lost an estimated $400,000 worth of balisongs in a seizure. They're likely not looking to repeat the experience. I don't blame them.

Yes, they had a few older gems, but I wasn't looking for a Spydie at the time!

That looks like a cool shop. I wish I had something even remotely similar to that near me.... or maybe I don't, lol, I'd be even more poor!

Btw... back onto the off topic of clips, lol... that clip sticking out of Erics front pocket sure doesn't look like a standard Spyderco hourglass clip to me... wonder what he was carrying?

I was checking out those clips too!

After about a week of Janisong ownership, I'm flipping it almost as well as a regular balisong. I'm much more comfortable with the idea of carrying it now!

Definitely a balisong. Bought one here in Taipei yesterday. It clearly states it cannot be shipped to the US or returned to Spyderco HQ on a yellow card in the box!

Hi Jay,

After seeing your vid, I'm rather keen to get one. I did notice that the store website is completely in Mandarin. Have tried to email them for more info in English, but from your experience, would communication be an issue?

jylong, I just spoke with them in Mandarin and was told that communicating in English -written or spoken - would not be a problem for them.

Hey thanks for that. Was your conversation also about buying a Janisong outside of Taiwan? Was the news good?

The lady on the phone told me they just accepted an order from Italy, so shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks. Just put a call to them, which went ok. It's times like this I wish I'd listened to my parents and paid attention in language class ;P
